Are you craving a bit of vitamin D, sun, sea, and warmth on your body? We understand that. Winter is long too. I mean, November and December are still quite cozy, but then those dark months after the holidays? Time to travel to the sun, yay.

So where is the best place to go in our winter? Where it’s a bit affordable?

1. Thailand
Thailand is known for its sunny, warm climate from November to March. Especially the south, with destinations like Phuket, Krabi, and Koh Samui, offers perfect beach weather. Thailand is budget-friendly, especially outside the tourist hotspots, with cheap accommodations and meals.

2. Bali
Bali has a wet season from December to February, but temperatures remain high and it often only rains in the evenings. Despite this season, Bali remains attractive and affordable. Many tourists choose the south (like Kuta and Seminyak) due to the low costs of food, activities, and accommodation. However, tickets can be a bit pricey, unfortunately, as it’s a long flight from Amsterdam.

3. Mexico
The weather in winter is ideal in the region around Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. From December to April, humidity is lower, and the chance of rain is minimal. For budget travelers, the Yucatán offers various cheap accommodations and delicious street food.

4. Sri Lanka
The southwest of Sri Lanka is perfect from November to April, and places like Galle and Mirissa have sun-drenched beaches and are affordable. Food and transportation are cheap, and accommodations are relatively inexpensive, especially outside the main tourist areas.

5. Cape Verde
Cape Verde, just off the African coast, offers sunny weather year-round. The rainy season is short, and temperatures remain around 25-30 degrees in winter. The islands of Sal and Boa Vista are popular and becoming increasingly affordable, also due to rising budget flights from Europe. Just be mindful of the wind: in some months of the year, it can be quite strong, making it less pleasant on the beach.

6. Egypt (Red Sea)
With dry winters and plenty of sun, the Red Sea resorts like Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh are ideal and relatively cheap. Temperatures are pleasant, and the water is warm enough for snorkeling and diving. Especially all-inclusive resorts offer affordable packages in winter. Be sure to check your tickets, as you can find budget options with cheaper airlines to get here.

7. Vietnam
Vietnam, especially the south (like Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc), has dry and warm months between November and April. Vietnam is one of the most affordable countries in Southeast Asia, with cheap accommodations and meals. Phu Quoc, an island with stunning beaches, is also relatively affordable.

8. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Although Dubai is not the cheapest destination, it sometimes offers affordable flights and hotels in winter due to deals and discounts. Winter temperatures are ideal around 25 degrees, and even beach days are pleasant without the extreme heat of summer. And the cool thing is, it’s only a 6-hour flight from the Netherlands. Now that’s nice.
