These trending books are what you want to read this autumn

We are now halfway through September, and that means that I don't hide it that I secretly feel quite happy when I find myself in the first autumn storm of the year, having cycled home against the wind and stepping into my house soaked. If I can then also stay inside for the evening while the rain beats against the windows, after warming up with a hot shower and settling on the couch in my comfiest outfit... For me, that sounds pretty ultimate. I also notice that not everyone gets as enthusiastic about autumn weather as I do. And of course, I'm less enthusiastic when it's pouring rain while I still have to cycle to the office, arriving there like a drenched kitten and sitting soaked behind my desk all day, on filming days where I have to stand in the icy wind all day, or on my way to a drink and arriving there with makeup washed off my face by the autumn downpour. But still, I realize that I am very satisfied with that weather at home that evening.
What makes it complete: a good book that I would still like to read while walking down the street. The ultimate autumn book tip has to do with my love for seasonal coffee (I’ve missed you pumpkin spice!). This book is called ‘The Pumpkin Spice Café’, but it’s not nearly as sweet as it sounds. This book by author Laurie Gilmore is going viral on TikTok for a reason. We now know from ‘It ends with us’ that we want to jump on that hype as soon as possible. This book starts like the typical autumn & Christmas movies you can find on Netflix: a girl moves from the big city to a small village to take over a coffee shop, and there she meets a charming man. Although we all know how that will ultimately end, there are some exciting twists in this story. It’s no wonder that almost everyone who has read this book recommends not to read it in public. A whole new twist is given to the spicy in Pumpkin Spice. Perfect for diving into on the couch. You can now reserve this book online, so you have it in your hands first as soon as it becomes available from September 17.
Are you in the mood for suspense in a different way? Then the thriller ‘Wraaklust’, written by Saskia Oudshoorn, is really what you want to bring home. It’s about Keet de Beijl, who has a very successful high-end clothing store. Her husband Sijmen is a coach of a professional football club (like Arne Slot and Peter Bosz, super successful). When Sijmen unexpectedly dies in an accident, some suspicious matters come to light. Keet discovers that her husband may not have been as honest, reliable, and kind as she thought all this time. When she starts investigating, the puzzle pieces begin to fall into place. As far as I'm concerned, this is the ultimate mix of a chick flick and a thriller. This is really a book to read in a few days with a cup of tea, full of disgust and yet curiosity, simply because you can't stop. You can be sure that these books will make you enjoy those stormy autumn days just a little more.
