Do you think you are doing well by drinking liters of water in this nice weather? Better think twice. There is actually another drink that hydrates much better than water and that drink is very common.

The chance is quite big that it is in your fridge. It is milk. It turns out to hydrate 1.5 times better than water, according to research. Participants in a test environment had to, well, simply put: drink something. And the researchers then looked at their fluid balance. Milk performed well. Skim milk scored even slightly higher with a hydration factor of 1.58. That was even higher than the value for the well-known (hangover) powder ORS, a liquid specially developed to replenish body fluids in case of dehydration to restore the fluid and salt balance in the body. Uh, seriously? How come we didn't know this earlier?

Milk contains water, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals, making it a fantastic hydration option. Many studies show that milk can be effective in restoring fluid balance after exertion due to the combination of electrolytes and proteins. And no, milk in your coffee is not enough, because coffee actually dehydrates you. Old-fashioned pouring a glass in the morning, then?
