This SkyShowtime thriller will be your new favorite

By

Maybe I'm a bit late, but I had never seen the series from SkyShowtime. But when asked if I wanted a preview of their latest thriller, I of course said yes. And to be honest, I'm sold. ‘The Day of the Jackal’ is a must-see. The ten-part series tells the story of an elusive assassin who must stay one step ahead of the British intelligence service.

A master of disguise

The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) is a notorious assassin who strikes all over Europe. What makes it extra difficult to catch him: no one knows exactly who he is. The Jackal has several aliases and is also a master of disguise; even the TV Canteen would be jealous. With prosthetics, wigs, and fake lenses, he manages to take on a new form time and again, getting closer to his target and outsmarting the police. Everything seems to go according to plan, until he attracts the attention of the British intelligence service after one of his assignments; especially from agent Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch). She is determined to find the killer . A manhunt begins across Europe, and Bianca proves to be a serious threat to The Jackal.

Already a success

‘The Day of the Jackal’ is based on the eponymous book by Frederick Forsyth and was already adapted into a film in 1997. For this new series, the creators have given the original story a modern disguise. The Jackal now has to navigate a world full of international politics, espionage, the dark web, and criminal underworlds. Filming took place in various countries with local actors to make the story as credible as possible. And this new form is well received. In the Netherlands, the series is not yet available, but in England and the US, viewers and critics are mega enthusiastic; and this is while the entire first season has not yet been aired there. Enough reason for the creators to announce a second season already.

We can dive into this series starting December 6, when the first three episodes will be released on SkyShowtime.
