Why you should actually wear tights in winter instead of pants

Look, the fact that tights weren't meant for summer but for winter isn't exactly new. But I can imagine that with the freezing cold of the past few days, you'd prefer to reach for your favorite jeans with an extra thick sweater instead of the dress + tights combination. Although I still definitely recommend that sweater, it's the jeans that you should really avoid on the coldest days of the year.

Say what? I'm going to tell you. Most tights are made from a synthetic material like polyamide. And while we can find a lot of synthetic materials, they do keep you the warmest in the case of tights. Yep, warmer than the material your jeans are made of. Cotton is a much airier fabric, which we love to wear on warmer days to avoid getting too hot, but on days like today, it's better to leave it in the closet. It's the tights. And secretly, my fashion heart beats a little faster for that because if there's one month that could use an extra dress or flowy skirt to spice things up a bit, it's January, right?

Oh and last but not least: Wearing tights under your jeans might seem like a brilliant idea. But it's anything but... The tights actually block the warmth from your legs, causing the inside of your pants not to warm up, and with every movement, a new draft of cold air slips along your legs. Still need an extra layer under your pants? Go for a cotton legging, which actually creates that extra breathable layer.
