What you definitely shouldn’t miss?
– Alcázar of Sevilla: This royal palace, originally built by Moorish kings, is a stunning example of Mudéjar architecture and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The beautiful gardens and rich history make it a must-see.
– Plaza de España: This impressive square, built for the Ibero-American exhibition of 1929, is surrounded by a large building in a semicircle with colorful ceramic tiles representing the provinces of Spain. The square is also a popular location for films.
– Barrio de Santa Cruz: The old Jewish quarter of Sevilla is a maze of narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and shady squares. It’s a perfect place to stroll and soak up the atmosphere of the city.
– Sevilla is famous for its vibrant culture, especially flamenco. The city has countless tablaos (flamenco clubs) where you can experience this traditional Spanish dance and music. Sevilla is also known for its festivities, such as Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Feria de Abril, a large folk festival with traditional clothing, dance, and music.
– The Sevillian cuisine is rich and varied, with tapas of course, because: Spain. Be sure to try dishes like jamón ibérico, tortillas, gazpacho (cold tomato soup), and espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas). Additionally, vino de naranja (orange wine) is a local specialty that you definitely want to taste. Then move on to the tinto de verano: red wine with soda. You won’t get drunk, just a little tipsy.
When should you go then? It’s in the south of Spain, where it can get quite hot in the summer months. Sevilla is known for its hot summers, with temperatures often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. But don’t forget about our autumn and winter. The winters are mild, making it a popular destination in the cooler months. So for this coming autumn, it’s actually the perfect city trip.
