With win action!

I don't know about you, but as soon as the sun shines, it literally and figuratively starts bubbling here in the editorial office. And there is one white wine that we always have in the fridge: Rueda Verdejo. As far as we are concerned, that is the ideal wine for a casual drink. And good news: we are giving away a few wine packages to experience this for yourself.

Verdejo from Rueda

Verdejo – pronounced berdeggo – is the most important grape of the Spanish wine region Rueda. Verdejo is to Spain what Pinot Grigio is to Italy: a wildly popular white wine. Juicy, fruity, and fresh, bursting with refreshing grapefruit, sometimes combined with cheerful spring blossoms and a tropical character. It is a perfect wine for warm days and a true crowd-pleaser.

On less warm days, we also find it very enjoyable. And also not unimportant: the fine price-quality ratio. Rueda Verdejo is always worth your money.

Typical bitterness

Do you love fresh white wine and enjoy drinking Sauvignon Blanc? Then Rueda Verdejo is a wonderful alternative. Less in-your-face, pungent, and green-grassy like Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand often is, but with some fresh grapefruit and lemon. What characterizes Verdejo from Rueda, besides its freshness, is a typical bitterness at the end. And that combination makes it such an attractive wine. Especially on the terrace – or any other casual drinking spot.

Then such an uncomplicated thirst quencher is lovely to drink on its own or with fish and salads. Exactly what we crave on nice weather days. And handy: you can recognize them by the green RUEDA label.

Rueda Verdejo: our favorite casual wine

Versatile wine

The nice thing is that with Verdejo – a late-ripening grape that is only picked when the skin turns brown – you can do much more than just make a light-hearted casual wine that you should drink immediately after purchase. There are also producers who make complex variants of the Spanish grape. With some wood aging. Then you get a somewhat stronger, and ‘thicker’ wine. More smoky than fresh, but still with those fine acids. Tip: pair it with something heartier, like something creamy.

Cheeeeeerrrs!
