You can already enjoy these 7 wrong Christmas movies

Around the holidays, there are many guilty pleasures we indulge in, but one probably stands out: ‘watching horribly cheesy Christmas movies’. I'm not talking about ‘Love Actually’ or ‘Alles is Liefde’, but about those really bad films. The films that Videoland has been providing us with since October. And thank goodness, because there are a lot of them. But that's quite logical, just look at the titles: ‘Time for us to come home for Christmas’, ‘Time for you to come home for Christmas’, ‘Christmas pen pals’, you name it. An important ingredient of these kinds of top films: a woman from the big city moves to a small village to take over a restaurant, hotel, or shop from an aunt. Within 5 minutes, of course, the man of her dreams walks in. At first, they can't stand each other, then they fall in love, but soon there's trouble in paradise because one finds out that the other has been planning to move back to the big city all along. Luckily, that person always changes their mind, and they live happily ever after!
It sounds silly, but this is just a winning recipe for a horribly sweet Christmas romcom that everyone secretly enjoys. And especially not with your loved one, this is such a guilty pleasure that you really don't want any comments from a critical viewer. The vast majority of these films can be found on Videoland. Maybe it has to do with the fact that Netflix generally offers higher quality films, and let's be honest, these quickly produced Christmas movies are not exactly high end. But just the titles alone are delightful, and it's just the right dose of cringe when it comes to acting talent. See for yourself, and definitely tip your friends on which movie you think is the most horrible. Then they can save the best for last.
‘A Christmas Princess’ – Videoland
You can't tell me that Harry & Meghan weren't the inspiration for this film. The prince falls in love with a ‘regular’ girl: she's a caterer, but not exactly successful. Until the prince walks into her business and is completely amazed by her cooking skills. Of course, they fall in love when he gives her the chance to cater his royal party. His parents don't agree, so they leave together. Incredibly exciting how that turns out.
‘A Christmas Prince’ – Netflix
If we're talking about a Christmas Princess, there must also be a Christmas Prince. Luckily, that's exactly what Netflix gives us. Now it's a journalist who accidentally wins the heart of the rebellious prince (again: Harry-like, he wasn't exactly a sweetheart for Meghan either). But actually, she was supposed to write all sorts of horribly nasty articles about him and his scandalous behavior. Of course, he eventually finds out...
‘Time for us to come home for Christmas’ – Videoland
A big mystery for the guests who are all staying at the same hotel, because no one knows who made the reservation. By solving the mystery behind it, they discover what connects them and find a way to change their lives. I can't say much more about it.
‘Time for you to come home for Christmas’ – Videoland
Of course! If it's time for US to come home for Christmas, it's also time for YOU to come home for Christmas. Katherine is a widow and is still struggling with the loss of her husband. That's why she goes back to her roots: her hometown. There she meets Jack, and immediately it feels like fate has brought them together. Need I say more?
‘Picture a perfect Christmas’ – Videoland
It has probably happened to everyone: you visit your grandma for Christmas and accidentally have to babysit the 9-year-old neighbor boy who lost both his parents in an accident, so he now lives with his handsome uncle. In this story, it's about a photographer who immediately starts playing mommy and daddy due to this misunderstanding. Her grandma hardly sees her anyway. ‘Maybe’ the neighbor boy manages to connect the two, just like Claudia Schiffer was wooed in ‘Love Actually’.
‘The Holiday Calendar’ – Netflix
Delightful, a bit of magic around Christmas. In this film, it's also a photographer who experiences all sorts of magical misunderstandings. But for her, it's not her grandma's fault, but her grandpa's. He gives her a magical advent calendar. Every day she opens a door, gets a small gift out, and those little gifts lead to special ’coincidences’ in the days leading up to Christmas. Horribly cheesy and therefore fantastic.
‘Christmas CEO’ – Videoland
Why be a CEO all year round when you can just be one at Christmas? That's what the makers of this film must have thought. The story revolves around a woman with a small toy store who receives the bizarre offer to merge with a multinational (a peculiar choice from them, but who am I to judge). Unfortunately, she first needs to get a signature from her ex-business partner. How she is going to get that is, of course, the most exciting element of the whole film.
