You did not see this on TV at the Olympic Games

The Olympic Games have officially started now, and so the TV at my home has been on all weekend. A lot has already been written about the opening of the Games, especially about the big comeback of Céline Dion. After we all saw in her documentary what she has gone through in recent years regarding her rare condition, it added that extra silver lining to her spectacular performance. But back to what it’s really about in Paris: the sport. I actually keep track of all sports, but of course, there’s just that little extra attention for favorites like Simone Biles and every moment that Dutch athletes come into action in any sport. Yes, even archery.

By the way, it’s not just Céline Dion’s comeback that attracted a lot of attention. Since the Tokyo Games in 2020, there has been some uncertainty about Simone Biles. After we saw in 2020 how she struggled in one of her favorite gymnastics events, she decided to withdraw and no longer compete. It later turned out that she was under immense pressure to perform. Netflix has also made a beautiful documentary about that period; really a must-watch if you, like me, are also interested in the people behind those world performances.
With all the attention for the big comebacks, the interest of a number of celebs was of course also piqued. On the red carpet at the opening, we spotted Kelly Clarkson, Jeremy Allen White, Mick Jagger, Christian Louboutin, Zac Efron, and Serena Williams (obviously). Some of them were also lucky enough to be present at Simone’s gymnastics. She was cheered on by Ariana Grande, Snoop Dogg, Tom Cruise, Chrissy Teigen, and John Legend with their kids Luna and Miles. Lady Gaga posted a few of the elements live on Insta, and even Anna Wintour was cheering and clapping in the stands. I almost regret not being an Olympic athlete myself when you’re cheered on by such people.
