Like many other rural areas in Italy, the mountain villages in Tuscany are struggling with a declining population. Many young people move to cities for better job opportunities, resulting in an aging population and abandoned homes. To reverse this trend, the Tuscan government has decided to use financial bait to attract new residents. ‘Residentiality in the mountains 2024’ offers up to €30,000 as a subsidy to invest in your new home, which must cost at least double what you receive in subsidy.

Conditions and requirements
The offer is aimed at individuals and families who are willing to relocate their official residence to one of the selected villages. To qualify for the subsidy, newcomers must meet the following conditions:

The applicant must be an EU citizen or have a long-term visa for Italy of at least ten years.
The applicant must be of legal age.
The applicant must make the property their own and permanently move to a mountain municipality in Tuscany with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
The applicant must currently reside in a non-mountainous municipality in Italy, according to the latest official data from ISTAT.
