You now get 30,000 euros if you move to Tuscany

If there is one region that has been popular among tourists and emigrating dolce-vita seekers for ages, it is Tuscany. It is certainly not the place where you typically go to find a cheap little house. But it is possible: Tuscany is also starting a sale now and wants to attract people to dwindling mountain villages. Not for 1 euro, but with money added, up to €30,000.
Residentiality in the mountains 2024
Like many other rural areas in Italy, the mountain villages in Tuscany are struggling with a declining population. Many young people move to cities for better job opportunities, resulting in an aging population and abandoned homes. To reverse this trend, the Tuscan government has decided to use financial bait to attract new residents. ‘Residentiality in the mountains 2024’ offers up to €30,000 as a subsidy to invest in your new home, which must cost at least double what you receive in subsidy.
Not mentioned by Tuscany, but also a reason for such initiatives is that, in addition to countering population decline, the influx of new people can also contribute to the revival of the local economy. New residents bring not only money but also skills and creativity.
Conditions and requirements
The offer is aimed at individuals and families who are willing to relocate their official residence to one of the selected villages. To qualify for the subsidy, newcomers must meet the following conditions:
- The applicant must be an EU citizen or have a long-term visa for Italy of at least ten years.
- The applicant must be of legal age.
- The applicant must make the property their own and permanently move to a mountain municipality in Tuscany with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
- The applicant must currently reside in a non-mountainous municipality in Italy, according to the latest official data from ISTAT.
Yes, moving from the Netherlands is unfortunately not that simple, but if you have already packed your bags for Italy, it could be a nice opportunity. The list of participating villages is quite large, so you have plenty to choose from. You should be able to appreciate the charm of the countryside, as life in a village with a few hundred to thousands of inhabitants will likely be a bit slower than you are used to. Especially in Italy.
