Your new favourite cocktail for summer 2024

I'm going to make a prediction. Not because I suddenly know something about astrology, but because sometimes you end up in special places, meet people you click with, and have an evening you'll never forget. Well, I had such an evening yesterday. And I discovered something, namely your new favorite summer drink. It's sweet, it's fresh, it goes down just a bit too easily, and it also looks like you got a 10 at the Victor Abeln School. It's the drink you'll only want to order during your next vacation in Portugal. And if you're not going to Portugal, then you're in luck because it's now available in the Netherlands.

I'm talking about Licor Beirão, a liqueur that has dominated the streets of Portugal for twenty years and is now delighting us with its flavor. Licor Beirão organized a wonderful evening with even better cocktails, and I was lucky enough to be there. We enjoyed various Licor Beirão mixes; you can combine this Portuguese favorite in so many different ways.

How does it taste? Like a summer walk through the streets of Lisbon. It's a sweet mix of herbs and fresh citrus notes, spiced with a combination of cinnamon, orange blossom, caramel, and chamomile. In short: delicious with ice cubes and a slice of lemon, but also great in a summer cocktail mix with ginger ale or citrus flavors.

To wrap up the evening, we were served Licor Beirão neat on the rocks. With a slice of lemon, because that's how they prefer to drink this liqueur in Portugal. If you try it without the lemon, you can taste all the different ingredients even better and maybe unravel the secret recipe of this liqueur. It has been one big secret since 1929.

I'm giving you a summer tip, my number 1 drink of the evening. This recipe is therefore NOT a secret, and you can easily make it yourself. Here's what you need:

• Of course Licor Beirão
• Guava juice
• Lime juice
• Guava syrup

A lot of ice. Pour it into a nice cocktail glass and I'll say just one thing: saúde!
