7 x Don't wear this to a wedding (and do wear this)

As soon as the first rays of sunshine dance in May, you know: the wedding guest dress code-season has opened. The save-the-dates are pouring in, your group chats are exploding with ‘what are you wearing’ and you… are facing a clothing crisis bigger than the love between the bride and groom.
1. No white (unless…)
Let’s start with the basics: white is off-limits. Unless the dress code explicitly states ‘all guests in white’ (think Ibiza party or modern art gallery vibe), keep a safe distance from ivory, cream, or that baby blue that looks pure white in sunlight. The bride wears white, the rest does not.
2. Not too revealing (no beach party)
You are at a wedding, not a Love Island reunion. So leave the micro-dress with ten cut-outs in the closet. Wear something festive and stylish: one beautiful shoulder (just look how beautiful this dress is), a subtle back neckline or an elegant maxi model will suffice. What I also find very nice; a top and trousers in the same print.
3. Leave that big bag at home
That tote bag from work where you carry your laptop, water bottle, and four magazines? No. Grab a small bag or clutch: only fits your phone, lip gloss, and a mini wallet. Perfect for the dance floor.
4. No worn-out shoes (and remove stickers!)
Nothing ruins your outfit faster than shoes that look like they’ve been through the Four Days. And really do remove the price tags from your new heels. Unless you are Beyoncé, you don’t want to flaunt your size and the price.
5. Not practical
It’s a party, not a survival trek. So forget backpacks, hiking shoes, and sports bras. Opt for luxury and glamour: shiny fabrics, jewelry, and shoes that may not be the most comfortable, but will definitely earn you compliments.
6. No denim (not even that one skinny pair)
Unless the dress code is ‘festival’ or ‘cowboy chic’, leave your jeans in the closet. Grab a dress, skirt, or jumpsuit. Black is allowed, as long as it’s festive: lace, ruffles, or bold prints are welcome. I bought a beautiful dress from Zimmermann last year, fitted, spaghetti straps, ruffles, totally wedding proof.
7. No perfume overdose
You’re there to party, not to envelop the room in a cloud of scent. Less is more. A subtle perfume with every hug is perfect — let aunts with migraines breathe a sigh of relief.

And now: the do’s for every wedding guest dress code
- Black is okay, as long as it’s festive.
- Prints rock: flowers, polka dots, or animal prints (in a classy outfit).
- Layers: handy for church, dinner, and afterparty.
- Accessories: statement headband, fascinator, or pretty pin.
- Sturdy heels: wedge heels, block heels, or ankle straps for comfort.
- Go to the hairdresser: a good haircut instantly elevates your look to party mode.
