BBB and SGP, stay away from my uterus

The knowledge that you can choose abortion in our country brings peace. It saved women and men. But suddenly this seems no longer so obvious. If you ask a few ecstatic parties, you apparently need to give a reason to terminate a pregnancy.
What’s happening, that BBB and SGP suddenly start to panic? Abortions are increasing since the abolition of the reflection period in 2023, the parties state. That is their main motivation to want to know the reason for an abortion. Research shows that the increase in abortions has been happening since 2022, which means the reflection period cannot or should not be a topic of discussion. Nonsense.
Instead, take care of good sexual education, instead of digging around in our wombs. I expect a connection with the increase in the amount of unprotected sex that is taking place and NOT with the abolition of that bizarre reflection period. Something with the pill from the basic package? And even if it is the reason, it still doesn’t concern anyone.
‘Because I want to’
Is the fear of the independent woman so great that you have to give a reason to terminate a pregnancy? “Grab the pitchforks and torches, girls,” wrote Liesbeth Rasker today on Instagram. And I’m normally not one for protesting, and I realize this is a luxury, but now I’m already starting on my banner. It’s ridiculous.
A part of the political Hague is (thankfully) furious about this absurd proposal. It concerns an anonymous register in which abortion clinics must keep track of which factors and motives women mention to terminate a pregnancy. BBB and SGP, are you following along? I will explain it to you in simple terms. Because the woman in question wants an abortion. Further, you can stick your nose in other matters than our wombs.
From the frying pan into the fire
Secretary of State Karremans fortunately still has it together. His response can be read in Trouw: “It gives women the feeling that they have to justify themselves to the government about their decision. I am not going to do that. It only causes harm. Women make their own considerations, together with a doctor.”
Caroline van der Plas is meanwhile spinning around again. She initially voted against such a register, now she is for it and hides behind involuntary abortions. She wants to help women. From the frying pan into the fire probably. Stay away from our wombs and motivations. If you already have to explain why you terminate a pregnancy, then the abolition of abortion is in sight. And that should never be an option.
I’m getting my Handmaid’s Tale cape and outfit ready. Unfortunately not to dance from left to right at carnival in the pub, but to stand on the barricade.
