Best Prime Movies: these 10 must-sees you can't miss

Choosing which movie to watch has always been a struggle. And with a list of streaming services that is almost as long as your watchlist, it doesn't get any easier. Just another dilemma before you can finally hit that play button. We're happy to help you a bit in the right direction, for example, that of Prime Video. There you will find quite a few gems. We selected the 10 best movies so that your movie night can start quickly.
1. Beautiful Boy
“Have you seen my beautiful boy? Tell him I miss him.” Just for that quote, you should prepare a good supply of tissues. Seriously, they are a must for ‘Beautiful Boy’; especially knowing that this story is based on true events. In the film, we follow David and Nic Sheff, father and son. Everything seems to be going well for Nic (Timothée Chalamet), but he still chooses drugs. His father David (Steve Carell) puts aside his misunderstanding and wants to do everything he can to help his son. But can he really? How far can and will he go as Nic's addiction increasingly puts pressure on their relationship? Who thought that Timothée was already amazing in ‘Wonka’ and ‘Dune’, this is really one of his best roles. ‘Beautiful Boy’ has been on Prime Video, but it remains a must-watch film.
2. Blink Twice
When a movie is finally released after a long wait, we almost jump for joy. Couldn't that have happened a bit earlier? Forgetting that such a project is quite a labor for the creators; Zoë Kravitz's took even seven years. She started working on the script for her directorial debut in 2017, and only in 2024 did her ‘baby’ see the Hollywood light of day. And the result is impressive. The psychological thriller ‘Blink Twice’ is about Frida (Naomi Ackie), a waitress who falls in love with billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum). She gets to go to his private island for a vacation full of luxury. But the longer she stays there, the more strange things happen. Frida starts to doubt reality more and more; what is real, and what is not? For this directorial debut, Zoë could still count on her now ex-boyfriend Channing Tatum; although they couldn't really celebrate the success together. Just three months after the premiere, their engagement was broken off. Such a shame, but fortunately, we can still see their collaboration on Prime Video. .
3. We Live In Time
Hopefully, you haven't put the tissues too far away, because for ‘We Live In Time’ you should prepare another box. A car accident doesn't sound like the most romantic meeting, but that's what brings Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) together. It's the beginning of a special relationship. But when Almut gets sick, everything wobbles. What do you do when ‘it will be fine’ is no longer so certain? How do you fill your precious time then? Don't worry, the film isn't just heavy. With just the right dose of humor, there's still plenty to laugh about. And can we advocate for more collaborations between Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield? Because this duo is simply fantastic.
4. Challengers
With the words ‘from the director of ‘Call Me by Your Name’’, I was already convinced, but ‘Challengers’ more than lives up to the high expectations. With Zendaya in the lead role, the creators were already 1-0 ahead; or should we say 15-0? In the film, she plays Tashi Duncan, a rising star in tennis with quite a fan club. This also includes Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor) and Art Donaldson (Mike Faist), two best friends who dream of a successful sports career; and of Tashi. Their duels soon become about more than just the medals. Besides the cast, the cinematography is an absolute showstopper. It really feels like you're in the tennis match. Were you not a fan of the sport yet? After this film , you certainly will be. And otherwise, the affairs and intrigues make it worth watching anyway.
5. Seven
This list cannot be without a true classic . One with a very young Brad Pitt. The psychological crime thriller ‘Seven’ deserves the 20th place on IMDb's list of the 250 best films ever made; that promises something. Pitt plays the role of detective David Mills; a rookie in the field, who is paired with the nearly retired William Somerset (Morgan Freeman). They dive into the investigation of a series of murders that have one thing in common: they can all be linked to one of the seven deadly sins. Knowing that there will definitely be seven victims, it's a race against time for Mills and Somerset. But with their clashing ideas on how to proceed and a murderer who is always one step ahead, it proves to be anything but easy.
6. May December
Ever wanted to know how actors immerse themselves in their roles? The film ‘May December’ gives you a little glimpse of how that goes, although this may be an extreme example. The story revolves around Elizabeth Berry (Nathalie Portman), an actress preparing for an important project. For this, she visits Gracie Atherton-Yoo (Julianne Moore). Gracie is married to Joe Yoo (Charles Melton). What makes that special? Their relationship began when she was 36, and he was 13. Gracie was convicted for this, but after her sentence, the two got back together. This extraordinary story is now being filmed, with Elizabeth in the lead role. To truly get to know her, Gracie must completely open up; and that proves to be almost impossible for her. The creators drew a lot of inspiration from the case of Mary Kay Letourneau, an American teacher who had a relationship with her 22 years younger student, although a large part of the story is fictional. So, it's not entirely true , but definitely a film you won't forget quickly.
7. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy
After waiting for over 8 years, I really didn't expect there would be a new Bridget Jonesmovie. But there it was, in February: ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’. And oh my, what a welcome film that was. Time to catch up on where our beloved Bridget (Renée Zellweger) has been. Small spoiler, but the trailer already reveals it: Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) has passed away. Bridget is a widow and is alone in caring for her two children. With support from her family and friends, she steps back into the dating world. But the current love landscape works just a bit differently than she's used to. Once in the game, Bridget falls for the much younger Roxster McDuff (hello, Leo Woodall). But then suddenly Scott Walliker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), her children's teacher, crosses her path. Well, dating is quite complicated. Bridget is as relatable as ever in her struggles. And to be honest: we secretly missed that.
8. Past Lives
Making your directorial debut and immediately scoring an Oscar nomination for Best Film? That's a feat few achieve. Yet Celine Song managed it with her romantic drama ‘Past Lives’. And once you see the film, you'll understand why. The story begins with 12-year-old Na-young (Seung Ah Moon) and her classmate Hae-sung (Seung Min Yim). The two like each other, but when Na Young emigrates from South Korea to Canada with her family, they lose contact. 12 years later, a Facebook message brings them back together. Through chats and video calls, they stay in touch, but a real meeting doesn't happen. Again, they lose sight of each other. Twelve years later, Na Young (Greta Lee) lives in New York and hears that Hae-sung (Teo Yoo) wants to visit her. He just doesn't know that she has been married for seven years. But what do you do when the feelings for each other have never completely disappeared? What does that mean for their future?
9. The Idea of You
Romcoms are often predictable, I admit. But honestly: does that make them less fun? Certainly not! Even if you quickly sense how ‘The Idea of You’ will end, you still find yourself swooning on the couch for almost two hours. And that's partly due to Anne Hathaway. She plays the role of Solène, a recently divorced mother who, slightly pressured by her ex, takes their daughter to Coachella. That doesn't seem like a punishment to me, but okay. What follows is a meet & greet with the popular band August Moon, including lead singer Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), who immediately catches her attention. The only problem: he is 16 years younger. And that's quite a dilemma. Can and should she let this romance happen? And what does his life in the spotlight mean for her family? It turns out to be a lot more complicated than they could have anticipated.
10. The Iron Claw
For some, Zac Efron will always be Troy Bolton, but there is one other role we need to talk about. In the drama film ‘The Iron Claw’ , he plays Kevin von Erich, one of the four sons from the famous wrestling family Von Erich. The boys are on their way to a successful career, partly thanks to their father Fritz's (Holt McCallany) training. Well, training, we might better call it drilling. Fritz not only puts his sons in the ring against each other but also ensures that the fight continues outside the ring. The result? The family becomes their own biggest enemy. Believe me, Zac Efron shows a side of himself here that you really wouldn't expect. And with Harris Dickinson, you know, from ‘Babygirl’, and Jeremy Allen White alongside him, it only gets better. Truly a must-watch film.
