Do you also have the disease to please (here's how to get rid of it)

Do you always want to please everyone? You put yourself aside, because yes, this needs to be done, they are looking for extra help at the office, your girlfriend is asking if you really want to come over now. Before you know it, you are way too busy.
And then you overflow. We also call it the disease to please: you want the best for everyone. You are always busy with everyone. But where are you? What do you actually do for yourself in a random week? Or do you do everything for your boss, your partner, your children, and your mother? This ‘disease’ also means that you are perfectionistic. You always want to keep everyone satisfied and never disappoint anyone. But in the end, this eats you up. You just can't keep it up for that long.
Who suffers the most from this? This behavior often occurs in people who have difficulty setting boundaries, have a great fear of rejection, and a desire to be accepted or loved. You then have a hard time saying ‘no’ to anything, and in group chats, you always feel responsible and addressed. You can't settle for sixes; they have to be at least nines. You feel responsible for the happiness or feelings of others, and your own needs are pushed aside to please others. It may seem like a sweet condition, but you are also very insecure. You need a lot of validation from others to feel even a little good about your own life. And always thinking about others makes you physically and mentally exhausted. You are too much ‘on’.
So how do you get rid of it? Do something more often not that you just don't feel like doing. And then see what happens. Is it really that bad if you cancel that birthday of so-and-so? What if you plan something for yourself every month, just because you feel like it? A massage, a beauty treatment? What makes you happy? Do it. You are worth it, and it doesn't always have to revolve around someone else. Be as kind to yourself as you are to others. Say ‘no’ and don't feel guilty, follow your own heart and your hobbies, make every day something you can laugh about. It's in the little things. Let's all try this – then we will all feel much more ourselves in 2025.
