This is why Elon Musk no longer speaks to his father

Money doesn't always make you happy, as you can see. You might expect that billionaire Elon Musk can pay for everything and everyone to solve his problems, but nothing could be further from the truth: he hasn't been in contact with his father, Errol, for years. And I wanted to dive into that, because I actually find everything surrounding the Tesla founder incredibly fascinating.

Elon Musk grew up with his parents in Pretoria, South Africa. According to him, his parents were not home much and he mainly spent time with their housekeeper, or alone. In 2017, he said in an interview with Rolling Stone: ‘I was busy making explosives, reading books, and building rockets; doing things that could all kill me. I'm really surprised I still have all my fingers.’

Elon Musk's parents divorced in 1979, after which father Errol entered into a relationship with Heide Bezuidenhout, and the two eventually got married in 1992. This Heide had a daughter, Jana, from a previous relationship. She was four years old when Errol officially became her stepfather through this new marriage.

And that’s where things get reaaaally weird. Not only is Jana the stepsister of Elon, Kimbal, and Tosca Musk, she also has more half-brothers and sisters from her mother's marriage to Errol. I'm completely confused about what that entire family tree would look like, because Jana has — as was recently revealed — two children with Elon Musk's father.

Pardon? Yep, seriously. Errol Musk had a son for the first time in 2017, named Elliot Rush, with his own stepdaughter, whom he raised from the age of four and who lived with him, and last week it was revealed that a second child was born in 2019.

Errol and Jana are currently no longer together and cited their age difference as the reason for the breakup. It's striking that it wasn't the rather incestuous nature of their relationship that was the reason, but okay. Errol himself sees little wrong with it; he believes that ‘we humans are only on earth to reproduce.’ Could that perhaps be something he passed on to Elon (who now also has eight)?

He had something to say about his relationship with Jana: ‘It's not practical. She is 35 (he is 41 years older, editor). Ultimately, if I were to live with her, she would come back to me.’ He also knows that Elon strongly disapproves of this relationship and the children: ‘They still don't like it, because she is their sister. Their half-sister.’ WOW. Elon Musk does a lot of crazy things, but in this I completely agree with him.

Will things ever get better between father and son? It doesn't really seem that way. Even before Errol impregnated his stepdaughter twice (it's still a strange sentence), Elon had already said about his father that he was ‘evil’ and ‘a terrible person.’ He would have ‘done just about all the bad things you could think of.’.

‘You have no idea how bad he is. Almost every crime you can think of, he has committed. Every bad thing you can think of, he has done. He was such a terribly bad person. My father really has plans for all his bad deeds. He plans nothing but evil.’
