My beauty heart skipped a beat when I could order Rhode and have it shipped to the Netherlands. I really couldn't wait to try the lip tint. Maybe because the product was so hyped, I had really sky-high expectations, but in the end it was quite disappointing. I expected the packaging and the applicator to be much larger and richer, and the lip tint itself faded quite quickly. For the name: absolutely a yes, because we are fans of the it-girl. The one from Essence is really a lookalike of the uber-popular Rhode Peptide Lip Tint. Yes, really. Both made in Italy, both with that juicy gloss finish and peptides for a bit of skincare-on-the-go. But where you pay €26 for Rhode (excluding shipping costs), you can get this one from Essence at Kruidvat for just €2.99.

The texture is just as thin, cushiony and non-sticky. Even the scent (a soft toffee meets vanilla) is almost the same. And honestly? If you swapped the packaging, you would hardly notice the difference.

Okay, fair enough: Rhode has the fancy branding, and we all want to be a little bit fancy. But the price tag that comes with it isn't so nice for your wallet. And then you are also a bit more frugal, while with such a gloss you actually want to apply it generously. Essence keeps it simple: no big billboards and beautiful campaigns. And you can see that reflected in the small price.
