Or are we all still lying like a dead starfish on the beach and playing a little missionary every evening? No, not at all. That is really a thing of the past. In the era of kama sutra books and enough porn to learn all sorts of new things, we are really no longer into the simple stuff. Although that one position still ranks in the top five, there is another one that now truly takes the throne. Is it the intimate lotus position? Or are we going for a day at the rodeo as a cowgirl? Of course, it's very nice to try the Crab or the Butterfly, but research from marketing agency Seekers shows that we Dutch people might be a bit ‘vanilla’. Or well, maybe we are not necessarily that, but the data does show that we are seeking that intimacy again. The lotus position was number one of all search terms. So it has really happened: the missionary has been dethroned. It wasn't even number two — that spot was reserved for the cowgirl.

Why is the Lotus so nice?

Couples largely choose this position, if you believe their search behavior. But why is that actually? What does this position have that makes people say: “Look, darling. We have to try this”? Well, it’s because of the intimacy that this position brings. You are literally in each other’s arms, with your legs around each other’s waist. By looking deeply into each other’s eyes, you see everything and that is very exciting. You see every moan, every smile, every little thing that feels good. That is now the focus.

You can even make a game out of it: try not to moan, stare at each other or not kiss. That makes it very exciting (because yes, it is secretly always exciting with the lights on or something else that makes you feel ‘watched’). So I don’t find it strange that this is a favorite.
