Body & Mind

From this (young) age, you start shrinking

but there is hope

You don't want to hear it. But I was once taller too.

You reach your maximum height around your twenties, and it usually remains stable until your thirties. But after that... the decline slowly begins. Efteling (37 meters at 90 km per hour) that thunders down, but the decline starts very slowly.

From your fifties, it speeds up: an average of about 1 centimeter every ten years. This is mainly due to wear and tear in the spine, bone loss, and the inevitable gravity doing its work.

Not everyone shrinks the same amount, but on average we lose between 5 and 8 centimeters. And everyone who knows me knows: that's dramatic news. How small can you get?!

But there is – albeit a tiny glimmer – hope. You can slow down the process. Here it comes: eat healthily, maintain good posture, strength training, and sufficient calcium & vitamin D. So if you look for me in twenty years, first check if I still come above the table.
