This is the heaviest job you can have (and it doesn't pay well either)

We all want to mean something in the world, right? And let's be honest: a little bit of fun earning is also nice. But sometimes it seems like one job is heavier than another. Of course, every job has its challenges, but what is really the heaviest job you can have mentally? Surprise surprise (or not): education.
Why is education so heavy?
More specifically: primary education and secondary education. Ask any random teacher how their day was, and you will definitely hear something like: “Busy, chaos, but fun… sometimes.” Teachers are literally ‘on’ every hour of the day. You are basically continuously presenting to a class of at least 25 students (or worse: teenagers, help!). Add to that those strict rules, difficult parents, and sometimes tough kids, and voilà: you have the ultimate cocktail of mental exhaustion.
Dealing with tough situations
What do you do, for example, if a student shouts ‘shut up’ across the classroom? Or what if a child decides that kicking and hitting are perfectly fine ways to resolve conflicts? As a teacher, you have to respond pedagogically responsibly, keep your patience, and also demand respect. Easy? No, absolutely not.
Teenagers are extra heavy (sorry!)
Every day, every lesson, and every class is different. Especially with teenagers, the group dynamics are complicated: 28 teenagers who make a pact to test your patience. The salary you receive is not exactly spectacular, and the amount of work after school – hello preparation and grading – is sky-high. And then students still find it ‘boring’ or ‘stupid’. Honestly: applause for all teachers, you deserve a statue!
Other professions that are considered heavy
Of course, education is not the only job that takes a mental toll. Think for example of:
Firefighters – You have no idea what you will encounter at a call.
Police officers – Constant tension and alertness.
Nurses – Long hours, emotional situations.
Baggage handlers – Physically and mentally demanding.
Construction workers – Always under time pressure and heavy conditions.
Soldiers – Emotional stress and dangerous conditions.
Miners – Claustrophobia, danger, and heavy labor.
Elderly caregivers – Emotional burden and heavy physical labor.
Roofers – Dangerous, physically and mentally challenging.
Fortunately, you can also derive a lot of satisfaction and joy from these jobs. But that you are completely exhausted after a workday? Not strange at all.
Be proud of yourself
If you work in one of these professions: hats off. You are doing something that not everyone can handle. So give yourself that well-deserved pat on the back. And maybe even better: treat yourself to a well-deserved vacation!
