These influencers are all suddenly DJs

Your favorite influencer behind the booth? Who wouldn't want that? Nowadays, it happens more and more often: influencers that you normally only see on Instagram or YouTube suddenly step behind the turntables. And honestly? It makes the whole party a bit more exciting and the crowd fuller. Time to get to know these five influencer DJs that you might have secretly seen pass by.

But first this

While there are countless talented DJs who have been fighting for their place for years, these influencer DJs often get a spot at the biggest parties right away. How is it that these influencer DJs break through so quickly?

The answer often lies not in the mixing itself, but in the reach of these influencers. Festival organizers know very well that a well-known influencer on the lineup sells tickets like hotcakes. Well, they are there, so let's embrace them. I did some research for you, here are 5 well-known names that are suddenly DJs now:

Stefan de Vries aka DJ St3ve

First up, my personal YouTube favorite to have playing in the background: Stefan de Vries. Stefan has been inspired by and involved in the DJ world for a long time. He once spent a day with Reinier Zonneveld and was often seen at techno festivals.

Last year he did an experiment for his YouTube channel: ”can you become a DJ in one year?” In his video, you can see how he goes from zero to a hundred in twelve months, from small house parties to large events. His adventure ended at Reinier's R2 festival, where he got to play his set. The fun part? I experienced that set live and he mainly plays hard techno.

Royalistic

The TikTok scene couldn't believe its eyes when Royalistic suddenly appeared on the lineup of Intents. This gamer and YouTuber, known to many young boys, is now suddenly behind the DJ booth. His track ‘Gekkenhuis dat wist ik’ became a hardstyle hit.

Comments like “this is really the coolest side quest ever” and “this guy deserves a bigger stage” circulated. Of course, not everyone was happy. “Nonsense from Intents, putting him on the lineup just because he's famous, while there are DJs who have been fighting for years and don't get a chance,” was also heard. And in a way, that's fair. Although Royalistic had released his own songs earlier, it was only this year that it became known that he is also active behind the knobs. And whether he was really mixing? I doubt it...

Monica Geuze

Okay, hold up: this is not just any influencer suddenly jumping into the DJ scene. Monica actually started her DJ career at the age of sixteen and played at the highest parties alongside... yes, Ronnie Flex. He asked her to become his regular DJ (that's how she also got to know Lil’ Kleine).

Although she did this for a few years, she stopped to focus on her career as an influencer and other projects. Now she is increasingly appearing behind the turntables again. This summer she will be performing at 7 Fest, Zin in de Zomer Fest, and Parels van de Stad. Monica plays hip hop, R&B, and afrobeat.

Paris Hilton

Yes, you heard it right: Paris Hilton. She is of course no stranger in the entertainment world, but since she discovered the turntables, there has been a lot of discussion about her. Is Paris really a DJ or is she just pretending? The answer? It just depends on who you ask. Critics say she mainly ‘lip-syncs’ and doesn't mix herself, as her sets often come across as a bit fake.

Still, Paris plays at major festivals and events worldwide. Whether she is really mixing or not, she certainly attracts an audience. Her debut was in 2012 at the Pop Music Festival in São Paulo. Recently, she was seen at Coachella. Whether she will be DJing more often in the future is still unknown.

Matt Bennett

Last but not least: Matt Bennett. The name might not ring a bell immediately, but for Gen Z, he is a phenomenon. Do you remember Robbie from Nickelodeon's series Victorious? Yup, that slightly weird guy with the talking doll. With over one and a half million followers on Instagram, he remains popular.

Since 2022, he made the switch to the DJ world. DJ Mat has been touring the US since March with his ‘Party101’ tour, hitting entire states. Reactions like “Matt, we need you in Europe” and “we want a Canadian date” show that his tour is far from over. He plays nostalgic music: Disney and Nickelodeon throwbacks. Believe it or not. To be fair, at his Party101, he is mostly seen dancing in front of the DJ booth instead of actually spinning behind the turntables, but hey, who cares.
