New on Netflix in September

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, but it feels quite satisfying that the new month also starts on a Monday. Right? You don't really gain anything from it, but the idea is nice. What you do gain are the new titles on Netflix. There are quite a few gems among them that make you want to plop down on the couch right away. I'll go through the best movies and series with you, so you won't have a dull moment all September.

La La Land (September 6 on Netflix)

Choosing one favorite movie is almost impossible. But the one that always stays high on the list is ‘La La Land’; partly thanks to the golden combination of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. They tell the story of Mia and Sebastian, an aspiring actress and a struggling jazz pianist. Both full of ambitions, but also full of feelings for each other. And of course, the question is whether those two things can coexist. The film was received so well that it almost won the Oscar for Best Picture. By almost, we mean that they had already received the golden statuettes, but had to hand them back. A bit painful, but still a promise for a great movie night.

Wednesday season 2 part 2 (September 3 on Netflix)

We were already warned that ‘Wednesday’ season 2 would be more intense, and there was no lie in that. With paranormal visions about Enid, a swarm of murderous crows, and the arrival of Pugsley Addams, who also doesn't go unnoticed, it's one big chaos at Nevermore Academy again. And we are left with all sorts of questions. The most important one: is Wednesday really dead? With season 3 already in the works, that chance is small, but you never know. We will also finally discover what role Lady Gaga will play. It certainly won't be calm for Wednesday.

The Wrong Paris (September 12 on Netflix)

When booking a flight ticket, it's always smart to double-check that you've really checked the right destination. Lagos in Portugal is really something different than Lagos in Nigeria. But that you also have to be careful when typing ‘tickets to Paris’ was new to me. And Dawn (Miranda Cosgrove), the main character in ‘The Wrong Paris’, also had that problem. She thought she had signed up for a dating show in the French capital, but it turned out to take place in the village of Paris in the American state of Texas. This was not her intention, and Dawn wants to get away as soon as possible. Until she meets the handsome cowboy Trey (Pierson Fodé). Maybe her mistake won't turn out so badly after all.

Love is Blind France season 1 (September 10 on Netflix)

The summer may be almost over, but in France, the temperature is still high for now. After the US, England, Sweden, and Argentina, the well-known Love is Blind pods will this time land in Paris. And as the city of love, it's actually strange that this hasn't happened before. According to the first images, all that waiting will be well worth it, and we can prepare for a whole lot of emotions. Love remains complicated.

Get Out (September 19 on Netflix)

Horror movies are not really my thing. I usually politely decline the invitation to watch one. But with almost only rave reviews and an almost perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, even I couldn't ignore ‘Get Out’. The film tells the story of African American Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), who visits the parents of his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) for the first time. There, he is received with exaggerated friendliness. Probably to compensate for the fact that they have to get used to their daughter having a black boyfriend. But the longer Chris spends with his in-laws, the stranger the situation becomes. The true reason for his invitation turns out to be much darker than he could have imagined. Definitely a must-see, even for my fellow scaredy-cats.

Billionaire’s Bunker season 1 (September 19 on Netflix)

The rich of the rich can buy just about anything they want. And although after the umpteenth vacation home you might not know what else to wish for, that huge piggy bank might come in handy. For example, when the world is about to collapse and there is only one place to survive: a bunker with a hefty price tag. This is exactly what billionaires face in the new Spanish series ‘Billionaire’s Bunker’ (originally ‘El Refugio Atómico’). But as is often the case with the elite, there is plenty of drama between the different families. And yes, in such a bunker, you really can't avoid each other anymore. With the creators of ‘La Casa de Papel’ at the helm, expectations for this new title are quite high.

Five Feet Apart (September 30 on Netflix)

Director and actor Justin Baldoni we now mainly know from all the drama with Blake Lively surrounding their film ‘It Ends With Us’. But before that all went wrong, he made another gem. In ‘Five Feet Apart’, we follow Stella (Haley Lu Richardson) and Will (Cole Sprouse), two young people who both suffer from cystic fibrosis. Their fragile health forces them to stay at least 1.5 meters apart, five feet apart. And with blossoming feelings and all the uncertainty of their illness, that's anything but easy. For this film, you might want to have the tissues ready; they are definitely not unnecessary.

If you could use a few more Netflix-breaks this month, these titles are also on the schedule:
