New on Netflix in March

Just hold on a little longer, the cold and dark months are really almost over. We're already in March, and that means spring is just around the corner. But that's not the only good news. Netflix is adding quite a few new gems again. I'll go through the most fun movies and series with you, so you can wait for the first spring sunshine with a well-filled watchlist.

The Other Boleyn Girl (March 1)

Perhaps the very best thing about historical dramas: those beautiful dresses; and then of course secretly fantasizing about how they would look. With a hefty dose of drama, this genre often delivers. At least with ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’. When King Henry VIII's wife (Eric Bana) cannot provide him with a male heir, his discontent grows. Count Thomas Boleyn (Mark Rylance) tries to seize his chance by pairing his eldest daughter Anne (Natalie Portman) with the king. That doesn't go quite as planned, as Henry finds Anne's younger sister Mary (Scarlett Johansson) much more interesting. The sisters must compete for his attention, and the family bonds are put to the test.

Love is Blind: Sweden: After the Altar (March 6)

Whatever the destination, with ‘Love is Blind’ we can always enjoy the necessary drama. But after a season full of arguments, jealousy, and romance, we always end up wondering: what happens next? Netflix finally gives us the answer this month, at least for the couples from Sweden. In ‘Love Is Blind: Sweden: After the Altar’, we see what the married or not married life of the candidates looks like after the show. And believe me, there's plenty to talk about.

The Electric State (March 14)

A cast full of big names often promises a lot of good. With Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Woody Harrelson, and Michelle Yeoh, ‘The Electric State’ sets the bar high. Teenager Michelle (Brown) has lost both her parents and is determined to find her lost little brother. She gets help from a mysterious robot and a somewhat quirky smuggler; it's bound to be a special journey.

Adolescence (March 13)

Crime lovers, pay attention, March is going to be enjoyable again. The miniseries ‘Adolescence’ should not be missing from your watchlist. 13-year-old Jamie (Owen Cooper) is suspected of murdering a fellow student. His family, therapist, and the police are full of questions and try to discover what really happened. One fun fact: all episodes are filmed in one long shot. Step by step, you are taken into the investigation and discover, just like the characters, a little more each time.

The Pitch Perfect series (March 15)

To get through these last winter days, Netflix has the perfect remedy. Not one, but all three ‘Pitch Perfect’ films are being added. The female a cappella group The Barden Bellas tries to become the best music group at their university, but faces increasing international competition. They tackle all those challenges in their own, sometimes somewhat clumsy way. Singing along off-key from the couch with all the songs that come by is still really delightful. Time to warm up those vocal cords.

The Residence (March 20)

A state dinner at the White House turns into a crime scene when the chef is found dead. Detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba) is tasked with discovering what exactly happened and finding the murderer. Cordelia has her own ways of tackling this, but with 157 attendees, and thus potential suspects, it proves to be quite a challenge. This eight-part drama series is from the same creators as ‘Bridgerton’ and ’Inventing Anna’, so the bar is set pretty high. On March 20, the search for the culprit begins, and we will find out if ‘The Residence’ can meet expectations.

The Life List (March 28)

Hands up if you've ever made a bucket list. Traveling the world or learning a new language, as a child, anything seemed possible. But the older you get, the more these dreams fade into the background. How sad that is is evident in ‘The Life List’. Just before her death, Alex Rose's (Sofia Carson) mother encourages her to complete the bucket list she made as a child. The list takes her to various special places and new encounters, but also brings her back to the past where she discovers old family secrets and learns to know herself again. A lovely escape into a story full of romance; and meanwhile fantasizing about our own wish list.
