New on Netflix in November

In the aftermath of storm Benjamin, it may have been dry for an hour somewhere over the past few days. But you know what they say: it’s November, so the rain is definitely not going away now. And although that doesn’t exactly invite you to run outside, it’s the perfect opportunity to nestle on the couch. Netflix is playing into this nicely with a new batch of titles that absolutely fit the dark, cold days. I’ve lined up the best movies and series for you, so you can shelter in comfort from all those showers.
Frankenstein (November 7 on Netflix)
We’re extending spooky season just a little longer, with the latest creation from Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro. And with five stars from among others NRC and Trouw, ‘Frankenstein’ promises to be a movie night you won’t forget anytime soon. For those who aren’t familiar with the story (or the twist): Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) is a brilliant but egocentric scientist determined to create life from death. After a major experiment, he brings The Creature (Jacob Elordi) to life. What follows? A being with its own consciousness that makes you wonder: who is really the monster? Bonus: Jacob Elordi spent about ten hours a day in makeup and is almost unrecognizable in his role; quite a change for those who only know him as a hunk, but absolutely in the best way.
Mrs. Playmen season 1 (November 12 on Netflix)
“There was a woman who exposed Italy: her name is Adelina Tattilo, and you’re not ready for her story.” With these words, Netflix announced ‘Mrs. Playmen’, and now you understand, the expectations are high. This true story revolves around the daring Adelina, who in the 70s, Rome, when women were mainly seen as mothers or housewives, stood at the forefront of the protest. She spoke about divorce, abortion, and women’s emancipation. When her husband leaves her as the sole owner of the crumbling empire surrounding their magazine Playmen, Adelina doesn’t give up. She turns the magazine into a groundbreaking publication and doesn’t shy away from any taboo. As far as we’re concerned: woman power all over; Adelina shows how it’s done.
Twisters (November 8 on Netflix)
I must admit, this is a personal favorite. After seeing ‘Twisters’ in the cinema, I couldn’t wait to watch it again at home. And luckily, November 8 is finally here: the film is coming to Netflix. We follow former storm chaser Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who after a traumatic experience with a tornado now studies storms safely from a screen. But when new equipment becomes available, her boyfriend Javi (Anthony Ramos) pulls her back into the field. There she meets Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a social media star who chases storms for fun. Their teams keep getting in each other’s way, but as the weather gets increasingly severe, they can no longer avoid each other. Collaborating becomes the only way to survive the tornado.
The Beast in Me season 1 (November 13 on Netflix)
Thriller fans, hold on tight. This month comes ‘The Beast in Me’, a psychological game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Writer Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) has completely withdrawn after the death of her son and hasn’t put a single letter on paper. But as soon as real estate magnate Nile Sheldon (Leonard Gerome) buys her neighbors’ house, her writer’s block suddenly disappears. He was once the prime suspect in the disappearance of his own wife, which creates a mix of shock and fascination. Aggie dives into the case, but that search could land her in serious trouble. A case of undeniable tension.
Champagne Problems (November 19 on Netflix)
Sorry Swifties, this is not a new music video from Taylor Swift’s song. Netflix’s latest romcom just happens to have the same title and immediately brings us into the Christmas spirit with ’Champagne Problems‘; that’s allowed in November, right? Ambitious Sydney (Minka Kelly) has one clear goal for her trip to Paris: to successfully manage the takeover of a famous champagne brand. But when she takes one evening off and meets the handsome Henri (Tom Wozniczka), her tight plan falls apart. Henri turns out to be the son of the big boss of the brand. With all those new feelings and the increasing competition, that deal becomes less and less certain. A nice cheesy Christmas movie to kick off the season; and good news: this isn’t the only one waiting for us this month.
Stranger Things season 5 (November 27)
If there’s one thing the creators of Stranger Things are good at, it’s making us wait. Thanks to the necessary delays, it has ultimately taken three years and five months, and even now our patience is being tested again. The fifth and final season will be released in three parts on Netflix: the first half on November 27, two episodes on December 25, and we’ll end the year with the finale on December 31. But well, where were we again? We pick up the thread again, one year after the events of season 4. After the Rifts in Hawkins have opened, the group tries to eliminate Vecna once and for all. But in the meantime, the army arrives and opens the hunt for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). It’s time for the final battle, and according to actor Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), this will hit us hard.
Train Dreams (November 21 on Netflix)
Something a bit different, but according to experts one of the big hits for Netflix this year: ‘Train Dreams’. This touching drama, based on the book of the same name by Denis Johnson, follows Robert Grainer (Joel Edgerton), a simple worker who works on the construction of railways in the American Pacific Northwest. His work often keeps him away from his wife Gladys (Felicity Jones) and daughter for long periods. When he loses them in a tragic wildfire, his life comes to a complete standstill. Robert struggles immensely with loneliness and guilt, and it takes everything he has to pick up the ever-changing life again and learn to appreciate it anew. This film calls for tissues, so good luck in advance.
