As soon as we hit December on the calendar, it's time for an intense wrapping battle. It starts early with all the Sinterklaas hustle: your kids (if you have them) have been crazy about the Sinterklaas news for ages, you've filled shoes day in and day out, and tonight is also Pakjesavond. Maybe you still need to wrap some last-minute gifts? Or is that surprise for the friend group still just not finished? And I haven't even mentioned Christmas yet. That's almost here too. Have you ordered everything? Do you have enough wrapping paper? And what are you going to do this year to wrap those gifts beautifully and originally? Phew. I understand that you can't see the tape for all the gifts. So I'll help you out. With these wrapping tricks, you can wrap a gift practically, super fast, and beautifully in no time.
1. Know the basics
Look, you can make your gift as pretty as you want with bows, ribbons, and glitter – but yeah. If you wrap your package carelessly with ugly folds and almost tears, it won't look good anyway. Even if you put ten bows on it. I understand that it's not easy to wrap a candle, but do you always have to stuff everything together like that? No. It can be easier. This is how you wrap gifts like a real pro:

2. Choose Christmas-themed wrapping paper
Those pink gifts are super fun, but how cool is it to go for those real holiday colors at Christmas? Go for dark red, army green, and bright blue. Do grab that wrapping paper with checks or funny Christmas trees. It doesn't all have to be picture perfect and sterile. Christmas is about coziness, don't you want to radiate that? Exactly.

3. Use velvet ribbons
Only paper is fine. But... It can be even better. There can be more spice, right? A bow is exactly what takes a gift from a simple thing to the next level. How do you make such a bow? Please don't make a bow like you tie your shoelaces. That's really ugly. This is how you do it beautifully:

Grab your (velvet) ribbon and place it from the bottom in the middle of your gift. Bring the ribbon up so that it lands exactly in the middle of the top. Now make sure that the left end is shorter than the right. Pull both ends tight so that a cross forms. Pull the longer side of the ribbon down. Bring it back up from the bottom and cross it under the ribbon and pull it tight. This is the base of your bow, it ensures that nothing shifts. Take the two ends and make ‘bunny ears’ as if you are tying a shoelace. When you cross these, don't pull everything tight right away like with your shoes. The trick is that you now place the shortest piece over the bow. Pull that tight from the bottom and cut the ends of the ribbon short and at an angle. There. Now you have a store-quality bow. You can of course also do this with ribbon or other fabric.

4. Add fun name tags
Now you can of course use a black marker (if you can at least find a black one in that mess, because I usually have to go for the red one, which you can barely see on that paper), but it's much cooler to use special name tags, right? For example, those golden stars that you stick to your gift with a ribbon? If you use your bows, you can attach this tag to them. That's just as handy. This is an area where you can really let loose. Use small wooden tags, make your own round velvet tags – anything goes, as long as you can attach it to the ribbon. So you better keep that hole punch handy.

5. Toch nog een extra verrassing
Heb je een strik én een naamkaartje? Dan kun je nog een extra verrassing toevoegen. Koop van die kleine zakjes en vul ze met wat lekkers. Bonbons, kruidnoten – wat je maar wilt. Stop een lint net voordat je het zakje dichtmaakt eronderdoor. Met dit lint kun je het zakje aan je strik vastmaken. Oh, en let wel op: als je chocolade erin doet, kun je het beter pas vullen net voordat je de cadeaus gaat geven, zodat je zeker weet dat het niet gaat smelten.
6. Maak een doosje
Heb je een cadeau als parfum of iets anders dat in een klein vierkant doosje zit? Dan kun je met inpakpapier een cadeautasje zelf maken. Dat is toch effe wat anders dan zo’n standaard cadeau. Knip je inpakpapier tot de helft van de wijdte van je doos. Leg dit onder het cadeau. Vouw de onderkant netjes dicht zoals je normaal het cadeau zou inpakken. De bovenkant doe je even anders. Deze vouw je schuin over de lengte. Daarna vouw je deze naar beneden tot-ie de dikte van je lint heeft. Vouw alles los en leg je lint in het stuk dat de dikte van het lint heeft. Vouw het daarna weer naar binnen zoals je eerst deed, alleen nu zit het lint ertussen. Duw de zijkanten naar binnen en strik het lint in een strik. Knip de zijkanten en kijk zelf maar, je hebt ineens zelf een tasje in elkaar gevouwen. Dat zijn pas origami-skills.

7. Probeer te spelen met Kerstige versiering
Je kent wel van die kerststukjes, toch? En wat zit daar altijd in? Nepgroen mos, nep sneeuw, van die rode besjes, dennenboomtakjes en misschien zelfs een marentak. Deze eyecatchers zijn niets voor niets met deze spullen gevuld: je wil dat kerstgevoel overbrengen. Het moet lijken alsof er een echte dennenboom is kortgezaagd en met allerlei dingen uit dat Laplandse bos in een bak is gestopt. Dat kun jij óók met je pakjes doen.

8. Leer zelf zo’n fluffy strik te maken
Ben jij niet zo van de gewone strikken, maar wil jij juist zo’n grote bol? Dan ben je bij het juiste adres. Met lint kun je echt easy zo’n fluffy strik maken. Meet als eerste je lint af; je hebt lint nodig dat vier tot zes keer om het cadeau past. Knip het uiteinde eraf en flip het cadeau om. Doe het lint om het midden en kruis ze over elkaar heen. Trek het strak aan. Draai het cadeau om en vouw de uiteindes over het midden zodat je het lint verticaal in het midden zit. Dit kruis je weer hetzelfde. Laat dit zo even liggen en knip nog een lint af. Rol het op en knip het uiteinde eraf wanneer je klaar bent. Hoe meer lint je pakt, hoe fluffier het wordt. Knip nu kleine streepjes in het midden van je cirkel. Schuif de strik via die openingen die je net gemaakt hebt, over de bestaande strik. Let op dat de uiteindes van de eerste strik bovenop loshangen. Trek de cirkels die je gemaakt hebt in de tweede strik los en trek ze strak zodat je allerlei verschillende laagjes krijgt. Knip de uiteindes van deze fluffy strik kort. Wil je de strik extra goed vastzetten? Dan maak je hem met de lange uiteindes van de eerste strik extra vast met een knoopje. Wil je dit niet, dan knip je ze gewoon eraf. Dit klinkt misschien ingewikkeld, maar dat is het echt niet. Trust me.

9. Wees niet bang om kleuren, printen en texturen te mixen
Hoe cute is het om al deze verschillende dingen te combineren? Ik snap dat je misschien geen groen lint bij oranje inpakpapier kiest, maar je kunt echt wel wat mixen en matchen. Ga voor een kleur tegenover die in het kleurenwiel, bijvoorbeeld. Heb je groen inpakpapier? Dan pak je een rode velvet strik. Heb je een paarse doos? Dan staat een geel lint heel goed. Door verschillende stoffen te gebruiken, krijgen de cadeaus een wat persoonlijker gevoel. Ga voor een katoenen strik of probeer eens geribbelde grosgrain-lint. Satijn is ook een goede optie. Wil je nog een stapje erboven? Dan voeg je van die doorschijnende tule-lint toe aan je strikken. Dat is pas een feest.

10. Gebruik deze geweldige organizer
Laten we eerlijk zijn: kun jij wel eens alle spullen om in te pakken bij elkaar sprokkelen? Ik ben altijd eerst een tijd bezig om een verlaten rol met inpakpapier uit de kelder te toveren, waarna ik nog het hele huis moet afzoeken naar een rol plakband. En als je al deze coole hacks gaat proberen, heb je nog veel meer spullen nodig om bij elkaar te houden. Toevallig heeft de Sostrene Grene daar een oplossing voor: een wrapping-station organizer. Hier kun je (ja, serieus) al je inpakspullen in verzamelen. Zet ‘m in de kast, in je kelder of op zolder en pak hem tevoorschijn voor elke feestdag, verjaardag of andere reden waarom jij een cadeautje wil geven. Hier blijven al je spullen netjes bij elkaar. Zo hoef je nooit meer te zoeken naar die ene schaar die het papier zo fijn knipt.
