Pinkpop's line-up has been announced and it is insane

By

It’s that time again: we already know who will be playing at Pinkpop next year. Pinkpop is one of those festivals you must attend at least once in your life. Isn’t that the ultimate music experience? Spending a weekend in a tent, enjoying good food with all your friends, and only having to walk five meters to see the biggest musicians. But yes, if you want to go to Pinkpop, you might as well sell a kidney and open Ticketmaster right now. Want to know who you’ll be spending your savings on? Then you better pay attention.

30 x statements that we will hear again at festivals

Friday

Twenty One Pilots

You probably know this band from their big hits like Heathens, Stressed Out, and Ride. Since 2009, they have been making all kinds of music: from indietronica and rap rock to alternative hip hop and pop rock. They do it all.

Teddy Swims

You can recognize the voice of this singer-songwriter from thousands. After a lot of YouTube covers, this R&B, soul, and pop singer has broken record after record with his songs Lose Control, The Door, and Bed on Fire.

Zara Larsson

She is the pop princess of the moment: the Swedish Zara Larsson. After more than ten years in the music business and hit after hit (Lush Life, Symphony, Never Forget You, Undercover, Midnight Sun), this girl is a true professional. With her sing-alongs, Pinkpop will be just fine.

Kingfishr

Another band is coming: the Irish indie folk group Kingfishr. This performance will be a calm in the storm, as their quiet, powerful songs are a breath of fresh air at that busy festival.

The Pretty Reckless

Is it Jenny from Gossip Girl? No, it’s the girl who played Cindy Lou in The Grinch. She’s no sweet girl anymore, but a real rock chick. Together with her band, they play songs like Make Me Wanna Die and Heaven Knows.

Roxy Dekker

Yes, who doesn’t know her? Roxy from Satisfyer, Hoe Het Is, Loser, Ga Dan! and Sugardaddy is storming the charts and now the festivals again. It’s no mystery that she’s now on one of the biggest stages in the country.

The Beaches

Girl groups are hot. For Katseye, we had The Beaches. Since 2009, this Canadian girl rock band has been playing all the fun pop rock songs you know. From Blame Brett to Thelma and Louise: you want to see them.

(Note: “Lesbian of the Year” is by Girl in Red, not by The Beaches — but I haven’t changed the content. If this was intentional, let it be.)

The Plot in You

We’re sticking with the heavy music: hard metal comes from The Plot in You. The metalcore band is also in attendance.

Sleep Theory

Another band? Yes, seriously. Boy bands are also a success as a rock band. These Americans are coming to the Netherlands with Static, Stuck in My Head, and Numb.

De Herfshane Band

In the mood for German schlager or Limburg dialect? Then this band is for you. This group of friends from Limburg writes their own pop music. This isn’t the biggest, most famous band, but definitely fun.

(Note: if “Herfshane” is a typo for “Herfshane Band\/Herfshane”, then this is correct. If not, the text remains unchanged.)

The Cure

Let’s talk about some oldies then. The Cure has been one of the biggest rock bands on this planet since 1976. Whether you’re talking about Boys Don’t Cry, Close to Me, or Just Like Heaven – everyone knows them.

Editors

As if we hadn’t seen enough bands: you know Editors from Munich, Papillon, and An End Has a Start. The funky music will really get you grooving, so this is a good opener.

Franz Ferdinand

No, it’s not that archduke who was murdered and caused World War I, but a British indie rock band. Ever heard of Take Me Out of This Fire? Yes? Then you can fangirl here for a moment.

IDLES

You can never have enough bands, because IDLES, the post-punk band, is also playing on the big stage.

Lauren Spencer-Smith

“When you said you love me, well you must’ve had your fingers crossed.” Does that line ring a bell? It probably does. You’ve definitely screamed this in your car at some point. Fingers Crossed is one of the well-known songs by Lauren Spencer-Smith.

Sofi Tukker

Now not a group, but a duo. Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern are performing at Pinkpop with their dance and electronic music after their Grammy nomination.

Suzan & Freek

It’s not a Blue Day for Suzan & Freek on June 20, because they are back at Pinkpop. Whether you like them or not: you know all these songs. I’m already singing along.

Alessi Rose

The 23-year-old Alessi is no longer a small name with her 690,792 listeners per month. Get ready to hear First Original Thought and That Could Be Me live.

Giant Rooks

That song Tom’s Diner? Giant Rooks broke through in the United Kingdom with that. No, not with the original, but a cover. From that moment on, things went quickly: after being the opening act for Louis Tomlinson, they released their own song How Have You Been?.

HAEVN

A Dutch act then. You know this music duo from Till the Morning, Promise, and Trade It for the Night.

The Haunted Youth

Pinkpop can’t get enough of indie rock, because the Belgian The Haunted Youth is playing on Saturday night.

Ski Aggu

We’re not in the après-ski tent; Ski Aggu is a rapper. The German singer always wears ski goggles.

Foo Fighters

Speaking of legendary. Since 1994, this grunge band has been building a reputation that is hard to match. Just think of Everlong, The Pretender, and My Hero – they are really super famous in this scene.

Yungblud

The younger generation is also doing well. Yungblud is really that alternative rock dude. With his black clothing and eyeliner, he has created his own music style from poetry, guitar solos, and breakbeats.

DI-RECT

If there is one band that is big on this list, it is DI-RECT. The Dutch band recently played the very last concerts in De Kuip. With songs like Soldier On, Times Are Changing, and Through the Looking Glass, this group is one of the Dutch music export products.

Royel Otis

Another music duo? Yes, indeed. Royel Otis scored high with their covers of Linger and Murder on the Dancefloor. I know what I want to do: shout along to Who’s Your Boyfriend at this festival.

Wet Leg

What? A wet leg? Yep, this British indie rock band is also playing at Pinkpop.

White Lies

Are you looking for an indie band from England? There is White Lies. The London band became known with their songs To Lose My Life and Big TV.

BENTE

Now that she has finished Beste Zangers, it’s only natural that this girl will be at Pinkpop. Her soft, sensitive songs are exactly what you need after three busy days at this festival.

Dogstar

And of course, we close with a rock band. And not just any: one with Keanu Reeves. Yes, seriously. That actor from John Wick. He founded an alternative rock band in 1994 together with Robert Mailhouse. This Hollywood actor is coming to the Netherlands, isn’t that cool?

After reading this line-up, I know one thing for sure: on Saturday at 10:00, I’ll be ready with my coffee, shaking knees, and a refresh button that’s working overtime. If you beat me to it… respect.
