Reese Witherspoon is super rude in this new romcom

By

Since ‘Legally Blonde’ I have a bit of a soft spot for Reese Witherspoon. She can be funny with her mannerisms without a classic punchline. In the new film ‘You’re Cordially Invited’ where she stars alongside comedy king Will Ferrell, it is really filled with these kinds of little moments the whole time. It’s not the standard sugary romcom, because the story has some super crude twists: exactly what you want.

The story is not recognizable at all

The saying ‘every little house has its cross’ exists for a reason. Every family has its own dynamics, but for many people it will be recognizable that not everything is always just rosy and moonshine. There are just interpersonal issues. The funny thing is: even in this film, it is clear how strange such a bond between brothers & sisters is: one moment it’s war, two seconds later a pact is made because one of you has an issue with someone. Less recognizable: you book a private island for your sister's wedding, but then it turns out that the island is double booked that weekend, and that a compromise must be reached with the wedding planner of the other party.

A deal has been made, but that doesn’t mean everything goes harmoniously

Jim, the father of one bride (played by Will Ferrell) wants the best for his daughter and doesn’t take it well when it turns out that Margot (Reese Witherspoon) has quite criticized them in a conversation with her family. This causes a chain reaction of trouble. I really don’t want to spoil anything, because things happen that you really couldn’t have thought of yourself, but it gets increasingly crude and strange. In short: a hilarious romcom that of course ends well, but with plenty of hilarity from start to finish. You can see ‘You’re Cordially Invited’ starting tomorrow, January 30, on Prime Video.
