High Potential just makes you want to watch it

Don't get me wrong, crime might be my favorite genre when it comes to series. But no matter how interesting it all is, all those (unsolved) murder cases don't exactly make you cheerful. Although they have come up with something at Disney+ now. The latest crime series ‘High Potential’ is the perfect combination of complicated crime cases and a hefty dose of humor. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, the series has already been a huge success in the US; and here in the Netherlands, it immediately shoots to the top.
A special gift
In ‘High Potential’, we follow Morgan (Kaitlin Olson), a single mother who works as a cleaner at the Los Angeles police department (LAPD) in the evenings. During one of her shifts, she accidentally stumbles upon important evidence in an ongoing murder case. Morgan can't contain her curiosity and dives into the file. She discovers various mistakes and decides to help the officers by adjusting some notes here and there; but that help is not really appreciated. She is accused of tampering with evidence and is at risk of being arrested. Until it turns out that Morgan was indeed right and the perpetrator, partly due to her help, is found. The surprise at the station is great: how is it possible that they couldn't solve this themselves, but a ’regular citizen‘ could? Morgan has a pretty simple reason for that: she has an IQ of 160 and therefore sees details that others miss. Police chief Selena Soto (Judy Reyes) sees a valuable tool in this special gift. She asks Morgan to join the department as an advisor. After a rocky start, she decides to go for it. She does so in her own, and perhaps not always entirely correct, way and with an important condition: the LAPD must help her find her partner, who has been missing for 15 years.
A successful remake
The story of ‘High Potential’ is not entirely new. The series is based on the French show ‘Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI)’. With four seasons now, it is also a great success there and is attracting more and more international attention. Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Greece, and Hungary have already made their own versions, and with the American variant, the series is now also available in the Netherlands for the first time. Despite only two episodes being online, the crime series is the new sheriff in town on Disney+. Those who are fully into it don't have to wait long: a new episode comes out every Thursday. And, even better news: a second season is already certain.
‘High Potential’ is now available on Disney+.
