Science says: this is how long the ideal sexual encounter lasts

Finally, an answer to the question that always comes up during the average Friday afternoon drinks (at least, in my friend group): how long should sex actually last? This question always arises following a steaming story from one of my single friends who either had a fling with a ‘three-second knight’ or has a bit of trouble sitting comfortably because there really was no end to her spontaneous one-night stand. My apologies if this sounds somewhat vulgar, but this is sometimes the reality of single life.

Anyway, we surely won't be the only friend group where this topic is extensively discussed, and we definitely won't be the only friend group wondering how long that bedroom circus should actually last. American researchers provide an answer: a sexual encounter lasting less than three minutes is a legitimate cause for concern. Three to seven minutes is considered sufficient, and anything between seven and thirteen minutes is ideal. Yet, the average sexual encounter (I'll leave some space here for drumroll) lasts five minutes. FIVE! And that while another study indicates that it takes a woman about fifteen minutes to reach a climax. So that's three (!) rounds in a row. The fact that many women have trouble reaching orgasm is a given, but could it be because their partner checks out after one third of the journey to o-town?

Tip from Flip: try to take it a bit slower between the sheets. However, you also need to know when to stop. Anything approaching 30 minutes is considered too long by many people, which doesn't really enhance bedroom pleasure either. Goodness, it feels like higher mathematics, this.
