Is Sam Solo the reason that BROERS has stopped?

Sam Hofman goes solo after the stopping of BROERS

On May 5, the unexpected and somewhat sad news came: the BROERS podcast by Sam and Rijk Hofman is coming to an end. After all of the Netherlands has cried in bed for exactly 2 weeks every night, we can collectively dry our tears -YAY. Sam Hofman is coming out with his own podcast — omg, say no more. But… was this the reason BROERS stopped? I ran to Spotify and Sam's Instagram and I’ll tell you all the ins and outs.

First, a bit about why BROERS stopped

Listeners were asking that question en masse. Was it because they ran out of things to say? Or was there something else behind it? It’s simple: it was just time for something new for the guys. “We want to do other things,” they both said. And to be honest? I get it. I mean: you don’t stay at the same part-time job for 10 years, do you? Sometimes it’s time for something different. Here you can read more about the stopping of BROERS.

Sam goes solo

Okay okay, what is that new podcast that we suddenly saw in Sam Hofman's stories last night and that is already number 1 in the trending podcasts on Spotify? After the BROERS podcast officially stopped, Sam started thinking about his own podcast adventure. Countless messages came in from listeners saying: “Sam, why don’t you just start something yourself?” And then, Sam said, I thought: yes, why not? So fans: your pleading actually helped -yay- and Sam has started his own podcast.

Important to know: it was NOT the case that the BROERS podcast stopped because of the arrival of Sam’s new show. No, it went exactly the other way around. First BROERS stopped, and then Sam decided he wanted to make his own podcast.

His new podcast Sam Solo is now live

Yesterday it finally happened: Sam officially launched his new podcast Sam Solo. The first episode is now available on Spotify and lasts about twenty minutes. And true to form, Sam opens the episode with a joke: “Should I just pretend I just came back from Expedition Robinson?” Many people had thought that Sam might be participating in the popular survival program, and that that would be the reason BROERS stopped. Well, wrong.

Sam on his bond with the listener

In the first episode of his podcast, he talks about how connected he felt with the listeners and how much he enjoyed sharing his story every week in BROERS. It was a place where he could be himself, where he could reminisce and tell new stories. He wanted to keep doing it. In his new podcast, the contact with the listener is as important as it was in BROERS.

Whether there will be a petje.af for the new podcast is still unknown, but as far as I'm concerned, it can come soon.

What can you expect from Sam Solo?

Let’s cover all the ins and outs: what can we expect? He says that he produces and records his podcast completely alone. “I make this alone, I do this alone, I record it alone, I produce it alone,” he says confidently. Of course, there will occasionally be a guest or a surprise, he says, but basically, it’s really his own solo show.

Oh yes, and about that contact with the listener: he checks the reactions and questions from his listeners every week and promises to keep going as long as he enjoys it: “Whether that lasts 10 weeks or 10 years, I will keep sharing stories.”

In his very first episode ‘The best moment of my life’, he talks about his night out with Daniel Arendens and Rijk Hofman, Paaspop, Liberation Day, his life as a DJ, King's Day, and at the end a bit about sex. I got a six-pack from laughing in less than 20 minutes.

The bond between Rijk and Sam Hofman

Just to clarify: although Sam is going solo now, that doesn’t mean Rijk is completely out of the picture. Sam has indicated that he would like to invite Rijk as a guest on his podcast. Who knows, we might see him soon in Sam Solo to share his story as well.

However, there is a small (maybe big) thing that could mean serious trouble, but you can fill that in yourself: Sam says this in the first minute of his podcast: “I know better than anyone what it’s like to be abandoned and never speak to someone again.” Whether this is directed at Rijk is not entirely clear to me.

What does Rijk Hofman think of the podcast

Well, what does Rijk actually think of Sam's new podcast? No idea, he hasn’t given a public response yet. Maybe he prefers to keep quiet, or he’s just waiting calmly. The fact is: both brothers are now doing their own thing, and that’s twice as fun for us -mood. I can hear you thinking, ‘What is Rijk doing then?‘ Rijk Hofman has had his own podcast ”Rijks Realiteit” for a while now, where he occasionally drops an episode. He also has his own YouTube channel where he reacts to videos.
