Excuse me: limoncello causes hangovers that last three days

Scusi- limoncello causes hangovers that last three days

Nothing tastes as good in summer as a limoncello for dessert. Even if you're just in Holland, you still feel a bit like you're on that Italian coast when you sip this ice-cold dessert.

Brak

But yes, the next day you hate yourself. And you hate lemons. And you hate Italy. Because limoncello would give you the worst hangovers. In other words: hangovers that last a whopping three days. This originally Italian liqueur is made from lemon, sugar, water, and (pure) alcohol. But the danger lies mainly in that sweet taste of the sugared lemon: you think it's lemonade. Your brain thinks so too, because it just tastes good. It doesn't taste like strong liquor, especially not when it's ice cold. And so you always drink it faster than you should. And certainly because it is always served in a small glass, you knock it back even faster and order uno mas even quicker. But that's not advisable. It contains an alcohol percentage of 25 to 30 percent, and you feel that the next day. And the day after that too. Scusi.

Scientific advice

According to experts, you're actually fine with limoncello. You would get the worst hangovers from dark drinks like red wine and whiskey, according to science. Cognac is the worst for your body, and drinks with bubbles seem so cozy, but they are no party the next day. A glass of champagne actually causes a nasty hangover because of the bubbles. So what is a good idea? According to chemists, you should mainly try light drinks, like gin or vodka. The less sulfites they contain, the less your head will explode the day after. Drink as much water as possible between your alcoholic snacks and keep doing this, even when you go to sleep, wake up at night, and early in the morning. The sooner you'll be back to normal. You can enjoy that hot summer again.

Not afraid?

Not so afraid of a little headache? Making limoncello yourself is muy simple:

1. Peel ten large lemons
2. Put all the lemon peels in a large jar that can close, and pour in a liter of pure alcohol
3. Wait 2-3 weeks and shake that bottle occasionally
4. Mix 1.5 liters of water with 300 grams of sugar and let it melt in a saucepan
5. Strain the peels out and add the sugar mixture, store it in a nice bottle in the freezer
Hoppa, let's drink. Or especially share some with your friends, maybe.

Pssst, also make tiramisu with limoncello.
