These were all the caps from Kets on King's Day

Okay, let's be honest: if there's one day when your outfit can be over the top and original, it's on King's Day, right? But there's always that one thing you see everywhere: the ket cap. No matter how original everyone tries to be, there's always a ket cap at every party. How do we manage this again, because this year on King's Day, well, instead of one ket cap, I spotted four without hesitation. And while I was standing there in Amsterdam, with an Aperol in my hand at ten in the morning, I thought: Maybe we should take a closer look at this year's ket caps. And for the 35-plus crowd who are now thinking: ’the what of the who?“ Don't worry, I'll explain.
A cap from who?
If you see the words “ket cap” and think you've missed a generation: you're not alone. Let me take you through this TikTok logic. A ket cap is not a literal cap (it can be, but it doesn't have to be). It's that one piece of clothing or accessory that suddenly everyone wears, often without realizing they're part of a kind of fashion trend. An example of such a ket cap? In 2022, the ket cap of the year was really that one zebra-flared pants — what were we doing to ourselves?.
And then a bit about TikTok, because that's how the trend around the ket cap started. Someone makes a video to the now-infamous song “Ket Cap” by Reinier Zonneveld, films everyone wearing the item, and boom: viral. The joke is—and this makes it so fun—that people try to avoid wearing such a ket cap. You think you're being original in your orange New Jersey shirt with number 10 on the back, until you count twenty at that one King's Day festival.
Last Saturday was no different. Not one, but four times a ket cap.
1. The black glasses with orange lenses
Seriously, if I got a euro for every time I saw these glasses, I could buy a round for the whole Rembrandt Square. This was the accessory of 2025 — and secretly it was that way last year too. A bit of Elton John vibes, if I say so myself, such big glasses with bright orange lenses. I'm not judging, because my bestie with whom I celebrated King's Day had one in her bag, and I wore it almost all day.
There's just something about those glasses that makes you automatically feel a bit cooler. And honestly: orange surprisingly flatters a light hangover and too little sleep - what you have left over from King's Night. A better version of the glasses, so you wouldn't be part of the trend? That would be a pair of glasses with blue lenses instead, also totally in, but definitely not a ket cap yet.

2. The blue and orange New Jersey shirt
The color combo of cobalt blue with bright orange was – to be honest – quite nice. You mainly saw young people wearing it, and people styled the shirt with jeans or a short skirt with tall boots.
You would think such an iconic piece would just be on the shelves, but no, I haven't seen it hanging anywhere in the store, so I looked up where you could get this shirt. I ended up on Temu and AliExpress. I didn't know so many people ordered from these webshops. How do people manage to make a blue shirt a ket cap on King's Day? Where we usually always wear orange...
@sterrebacker Originality oozes from it💙 #koningsdag #kingsday #ootd #petvanket #temu
3. The inside-out bomber jacket with orange lining
This one is for the die-hards, who have been keeping that one bomber jacket in their closet for that one day for years. A classic green bomber jacket that is intentionally worn inside out, so the bright orange lining is visible. This is quite practical for the cooler evening hours. See how this girl turns her jacket inside out, and slightly prepares to be part of the ket cap again this year.

4. Okay, another Jersey: but now in orange
This orange jersey, available at Shein, is actually the newest item. Last year we didn't see it much, but this year? Everyone was walking around with it. A more original option could have been: the jersey from New Cult with the lace back. I wore this one on King's Day and matched it with a long lace pant. Okay, actually that outfit was my King's Night outfit, but since I threw both things in the wash after partying, my white lace pants were now also orange. On King's Day, I matched the shirt with a balloon skirt (here all about the skirt of the year) and low boots. I almost felt like a ket cap, but luckily I didn't end up in such a TikTok.
