The sadness of Kate Middleton (and the “fashion faux pas”)

Where it once seemed that all happiness blew their way (except perhaps for a slightly rebellious toddler, as they sometimes referred to in interviews), Kate and William have had their share of misery in bundled form in recent years.

In 2021, Prince Philip, William's grandfather, passed away. Such is life, certainly. But it was profound and sad. Especially for their grandmother. The image of the fragile Elizabeth, all alone on a bench in the church due to corona, is simply unforgettable. A year later, his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, passed away, which had an emotional impact but also caused a shift within the family. Charles became king, William moved up a bit in the line of succession, and Camilla took on a more important role. This made the memory of and the sadness over his mother feel palpable again.

The real darkness came afterward. When Charles and Kate received the cancer diagnosis – they were even in the hospital at the same time. If you talk about something you will never forget, for me it was the emotional video in which Kate spoke about her cancer diagnosis. Rarely have I seen someone so brave, strong, and vulnerable at the same time. And all of this, of course, with a sibling feud playing in the background, which occasionally quieted down only to flare up again.

Now it seems the tide has turned and the sun is shining on them again. Kate is cautiously picking up her duties again. Her PR department has decided that she will not make statements about her outfits – such a shame, why? – but we continue to watch. Recently, she received a lot of criticism for combining, God forbid, dark blue with black. It would be a fashion mistake.

Well, people with a bit of sense know that Phoebe Philo dictated this on the runways for Céline back in 2010. Dark blue and black together make midnight blue, a beautiful, elegant, and classy combination. Exactly what we expect from Kate.
