This The Holiday news we would rather not have known about

By

My first ‘The Holiday’ rewatch has already happened and I can't promise it will be the last one this year. Although I will watch it next time with a different feeling. Actor Jude Law has shared some behind-the-scenes facts that burst our magical Christmas bubble a bit. Who would have thought that Jude would be the Grinch this year?

Rosehill cottage, or not

I can hardly imagine it, but for those who don't know the story of ‘The Holiday’ , here’s a quick recap: American Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and British Iris (Kate Winslet) are completely done with their daily routines and turbulent love lives. They meet online and decide to swap houses for two weeks. Amanda ends up in the English countryside at Rosehill Cottage. And that little house is amazing, so cozy and romantic. A few years ago, it turned out you could rent it on Airbnb, which was a dream come true. But that fairy tale is now coming to an end, Jude wakes us up and reveals that the cottage can't actually be rented: it doesn't exist. “The director was quite a perfectionist. She searched the entire area, but she couldn't find a single cottage that met her expectations. So she drew it herself and then had it built somewhere.” To make it even worse: there was never any filming inside the cottage. “As soon as I walked through the door, the cameras stopped rolling. Everything that happens inside was filmed three months later in LA,” says Jude.

So what was actually available for rent?

Now you might be thinking: but what was actually on Airbnb? That is Honeysuckle Cottage, a little house in Surrey Hills in the south of England. This is one of the places where director Nancy Meyers drew inspiration. From the outside, it looks quite like Rosehill Cottage, although the inside is completely different. Maybe the magic is a bit gone now; but for those who still want to get a bit of the ‘The Holiday’ feeling, the house can still be rented.

Fortunately, Jude understands that this is quite a blow and says sorry. But yes, it's actually already too late. I just bury my head in the fake snow, ‘The Holiday’ will surely still be magical with this news.
