What does it say about your ex if he still likes your socials after the break-up?

Well, you post a nice summer picture here and there. And then you see those hearts appear: your ex. He likes your photos and your stories and your TikTok. Why?
A break-up can be a confusing and emotional time, and in the digital age, there’s an extra layer of complexity. You’ve just broken up, but your ex keeps liking your posts on social media. What does that mean? Is it a sign that he still misses you, or is it just an innocent habit?
There are five possibilities.
1. There are still feelings
One of the most obvious reasons your ex keeps liking your posts is that he still has feelings for you. Liking is a subtle way to stay in touch without directly communicating. It could be his way of showing that he still cares about you or even a sign that he hopes for a possible reunion. If you find that his likes confuse you or send you the wrong message, you might choose to have a conversation with him. Just ask him: what’s up. And also think about what you want: do you want to stay in touch? You can always remove or block him, of course. But that might not be the best option.
2. He’s trying to stay friendly
Not every break-up ends in hostility. Some people want to end the relationship on good terms and remain friends. By liking your posts, your ex shows that he harbors no bad feelings and still wants to stay involved in what’s happening in your life. It can be a sign of respect and friendship.
If you feel comfortable with the idea of staying friends, there’s no problem. However, if it’s difficult for you to see those likes because it reminds you of the relationship, you can kindly indicate that you need some space to move on. You can also often limit someone on your socials: he will then see less of your Stories, for example.
3. He’s not thinking about it
Sometimes a like is just a like. It may be that your ex was used to liking your posts when you were together, and now he does it out of habit, without thinking much about it. In these cases, it probably doesn’t mean more than that he’s on autopilot.
Try not to attach too much meaning to every like. If you find yourself overthinking it, it might be a good idea to take a temporary break from social media or unfollow your ex, so you have time to process your emotions. But that one heart on a photo doesn’t say much, of course. It’s a whole different story if he starts texting and calling you again.
4. He wants to get your attention
Some ex-partners stay active on your social media to get your attention. Maybe he wants you to think of him, or he just wants to know if you’re still keeping an eye on him. He wants something, in any case.
It’s important to consider what you want in this situation. If you think his behavior is unhealthy or that it hinders your personal growth, you might consider blocking him or asking him to take some distance.
5. He wants to know who his successor is
After a break-up, some people want to see how their ex is moving on with their life. By liking your posts, your ex stays involved in your life and can get an idea of how you’re coping with the break-up. This can be a way to see if you’re happy without him or to check if you’ve met someone else.
Remember that what you share on social media is visible to others. If you feel uncomfortable with the idea of your ex being so involved, you might consider adjusting your privacy settings or consciously choosing what you do and don’t share. So do you have a new flame? Maybe don’t blast it on socials right away, okay?
