What you especially should NOT do on your first vacation together

The first a real vacation with your loved one is one that you won't forget quickly. It starts with the anticipation: you've been looking forward to it for weeks (if not months), but at the same time, you're also a bit nervous. What if it disappoints? What if you can't stand each other after the third day? Well, what do you do then? Okay, this is of course the worst-case scenario. The chance that it will be a successful vacation is quite large if you can't stay away from each other. But to ensure that the atmosphere remains good, it's wise to go through the list of absolute don'ts carefully. That way, after day five, you still have something to discuss after your umpteenth dinner together.

Don't stick too much to a schedule
You take a vacation to relax, not to check off a to-do list like at the office. Making a plan is fine, but make sure it's not timed to the minute. After all, you're on vacation with someone else, so that person also has a say in what you will do. So, especially don't get irritated if the plan changes for whatever reason. Go with the flow, and be a little spontaneous.

Don't argue over small things
A vacation flies by, so keep it fun. We all know how it goes: it's 30 degrees, you crave a cold Cola Zero, and the last thing you ate was a dry baguette with aioli on the beach. Finding a nice restaurant when you're hungry suddenly becomes the hardest thing in the world, which can lead to high irritations. Try to avoid this, because before you know it, you have a table and you don't say anything to each other for the first half hour. Just count to ten, and if that doesn't help, quickly grab a snack at the supermercado. Problem solved.

Try not to have too high expectations
It's often made to seem like vacation is the place where romance flourishes, but I can tell you that this is not always the case. There's a good chance that you will snap at each other. Therefore, be realistic in advance and keep in mind that it's not always roses and moonshine. Every couple has their moments. It's almost inevitable when you've been on each other's lips 24/7 for a whole week. Fortunately, there's plenty of time to make up again.

Put that phone away
Oh, how often I see a couple sitting at a table who would rather look at their screens than at each other is concerning. How embarrassing would it be if people thought this about you? So, put that phone in your bag or your pocket. In any case, not on the table. Of course, you should take plenty of photos, but be present. The only thing you can see on your phone is how things are going at home, while you should be enjoying that you're somewhere else than home. Oh, and those Instagram photos that your partner just had to take of you can really wait. You can edit those in the hotel room.
