A situationship also has advantages

It almost seems like a curse word, but gradually more and more people are realizing that there are also positive aspects to a situationship. Of course, it can be a very confusing phase, without the certainty that it will ever become a real relationship or that it will eventually just fizzle out. But when you think about it, it's also nice that you can keep your options open for a while.

If you've ever been in a situationship or are currently in one, you'll probably recognize yourself in this. It's precisely that uncertainty that keeps things exciting between you and your lover for much longer. Because you don't assume that you'll see each other five days a week, you still do your best every time you meet. So you can also see it as a longer dating phase. And that's secretly quite fun. The butterflies keep fluttering around nicely.

Of course, it also depends on how long the situationship has been going on. If you're a year in, it can start to become exhausting, because the tension remains high and uncertainty lingers in the air regarding what it will ultimately become. At some point, it may even start to resemble friends with benefits more. Therefore, it's very important to keep a close eye on whether you still feel good about it. If you've had a long relationship in the past, it can be quite nice to have the coziness of a relationship, but without the hassles and obligations.

Communication is essential here as well: make clear agreements with your lover, because if you both have different views, the difference in expectations can lead to one of you getting hurt. So think carefully about whether you want to be faithful to each other, whether the other is open to dating others or not, and if you get the idea that you want to make it more serious (or want to cut it off), don't be afraid to bring up that topic, whatever the outcome may be.
