Alexandra Leclerc is F1’s best style icon

In the Formula 1 paddock, there are plenty of women who turn heads, but the real it-girl of the moment is Alexandra Leclerc. During every Grand Prix she makes the paddock her personal catwalk. Earlier this year, her marriage to Monegasque Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc brought her worldwide fame. The Frenchwoman has recently become a style icon, and with her influence in the fashion world and on social media, she receives almost more attention than the driver himself.

Alexandra was born in 2001 in Calais and has Mexican and Argentine roots. This makes her multilingual, speaking French, English, Spanish, and Italian. She grew up between Italy and the French Riviera and studied art history at the École du Louvre in Paris, after which she worked as an art assistant at the auction house Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo. Her art background is reflected in her style and on her Instagram, where she shares the most curated photos. What started as a private account with less than a thousand followers grew into a profile with 4.8 million followers in two years. Although her relationship with Charles Leclerc played an important role in the growth of her online reach, she has now built her own audience.

For her wedding to Charles, she chose Australian designer Paolo Sebastian to create a dress for her. He is known for his fairytale-like dresses and broke through when he presented a collection in Paris in 2016 as the first South Australian designer. Over the past year, among others, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande have worn his designs, but his wedding dresses have not yet been worn by international celebrities. Alexandra's mermaid dress had a deep neckline and was adorned with lace flowers and butterflies. It is a perfect description of her style, minimalist yet very detailed.

Paolo Sebastian also made her dress for the Cannes Film Festival in May, where she wore a layered dress with sparkling details. Her jewelry was, as it usually is, from Messika. The luxury jewelry brand creates minimalist diamond designs and is especially known for the “Move” collection, featuring moving diamonds in an oval frame.

The clothing brand Frame also noticed Alexandra's good sense of style, and together they launched a capsule collection of 21 items in April. Her favorite item from the collection is his The Leo jeans. “The Leo jeans are absolutely my favorite. I’m going to wear them in many different ways, during the day but also for a nice dinner look with heels and beautiful accessories,” she told Women’s Wear Daily.

During the Monaco Grand Prix earlier this month, Alexandra wore a matching halter top and midi skirt with fringes from Oscar De La Renta with floral appliqués. On her arm, she carried a The Mini Poppy, from the same brand, and mules from Tony Bianco.

Charles and Alexandra's stylist, Carlotta Constant, regularly shares photos of the outfits she puts together for them. Carlotta builds Alexandra's looks around archive pieces with soft yet modern silhouettes, and the special thing is that the outfits always respond to the context of the event or location. During the Shanghai Grand Prix, she wears traditional Chinese dresses, in Austin she wears real cowgirl outfits, and in Mexico, she referenced her roots in her styling. She wore a modern version of traditional Mexican clothing, a kind of layered cape top and skirt with lots of ruffles and lace.

She always draws inspiration from somewhere and often references famous looks from history. This was also the case during the Monaco Red Cross Gala, where French designer Antoine Guerin made a reinterpretation of the famous dress from To Catch a Thief by Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco. Guerin is an emerging fashion designer who became known after sharing his designs via TikTok.

Despite all the major fashion designers wanting to collaborate with her, Alexandra also occasionally chooses clothing from Zara, Skims, or Meshki. During the Miami Grand Prix in May, she wore a dress from Pretty Little Thing, which you can still score for €35.

She has already had several collaborations to her name, including with Rhode and Alo. She also recently shared her beauty routine for Vogue Beauty Secrets. She remains the style inspiration on my Pinterest board, and I am curious to see how she will further develop in the fashion world.
