Three women wearing a color-blocking t-shirt

If you get tired of beige, gray, and black slowly enough, I have good news. Color is allowed again, especially this season. And not just a little bit of color in the form of a bag or a shoe, but just enjoy two bright colors at the same time. So, colour blocking.

You've probably seen it: tops, sweaters, and cardigans where two totally different colors come together. Think of blue with yellow, pink with red, or green with purple. It might sound quite exciting, but that's exactly why your outfit looks a lot more interesting right away.

And the fun part? You really don't need to buy a completely new wardrobe. With one colorblock top, you're actually already set. Let me just list those for you.

Two bright colors in a top

The idea behind colorblocking is actually very simple: you combine two or more distinct color blocks with each other. So no subtle print, but colors that really contrast or are opposite each other in the color palette. Because normally, you might not quickly combine a bright yellow top with bright pink. In a colorblock item, it suddenly makes perfect sense for you.

This trend is anything but boring

I especially love the combination of bright colors because you really don't have to do much else. I prefer to wear my long sleeve with blue jeans and chunky sneakers. Just throw a leather jacket over it and your outfit is already complete. Or combine it with trousers in one of the colors from your top if you want to style it a bit more.

And for those who find colorblocking a bit exciting: choose one color from your top and keep the rest of your outfit calm. This way, you get that nice color combination, but it doesn't feel like you've accidentally fallen into a neon paint box.

This one from Bershka I have myself

One of my favorites at the moment is this colorblock sweater from Bershka. The sweater has a light blue base and brown details at the sleeves. Those colors always work well together. It's currently listed on the site for €19.99.

This is, in my opinion, one of those items that you just throw over a good pair of jeans and then receive compliments about all day (I do too). And even better: because of the fairly simple shape, the color combination really remains the focal point of your outfit. For twenty bucks, you have a nice new statement piece hanging in your closet.

Or go for blue and yellow

Something brighter is of course also allowed. This Cotton Top with Raglan Sleeves from H&M is light blue with light yellow sleeves. It is made of 100 percent cotton and has a regular fit with long raglan sleeves.

And the best news: it is currently discounted from €17.99 to €14.40. I would personally combine this with dark brown or white pants. That makes the colors a bit less sweet and gives it a more mature look right away.

Colorblocking for a bargain

And that might be the best part of this trend: you don't have to spend a fortune. Especially at stores like H&M and Bershka, you can find these kinds of eye-catching items for relatively little money. And a trend like this is quite nice.

Because as fun as colorblocking is, you also know that in a few months you might be back in a more basic phase. So rather spend €15 or €20 on a nice top than half a month's rent on a bright pink designer sweater. Right?

White also works well

And if after these two options you think: nice, but I want just a little less color in my outfit, then luckily there is also a budget-friendly option to be found. The Topshop Slubby Colour Block Raglan T-shirt from ASOS is for example a nice option if you want to go for a simpler, sportier look. This one goes online for €24.99

If you ask me, I would especially not make colorblocking too complicated. A good colorblock top, a straight-leg jeans, loafers or sneakers, and a bag that reflects one of the colors from your top. You really don't need more. Your outfit immediately gets a bit more color, without feeling like you have to completely step out of your comfort zone.

And that's exactly what I love about this trend. You don't suddenly have to overhaul your entire wardrobe to wear a bit more color. Sometimes you just need one nice top. And honestly? I think that blue-yellow one from H&M for €14.40 is a really nice start.
