No one gets enough of this Spanish thriller on Netflix

Everyone could use a little more excitement in their life. And I'm not talking about fresh gossip you hear at the coffee machine, but about a series that gives you the creeps. You know the type: those crime thrillers that seem fictional at first glance, but are so realistic that they scare you. Are you looking for some adrenaline? Then I know something fun that will make your thriller heart race just as fast as a Formula 1 car. Or well, fun... More (appropriately) thrilling. The true story Someone has to know is in Netflix's top 10 and we understand why. Just listen to these four words: disappearance, secrets, detectives, and priests.
What is Someone has to know about?
This true story is not about a serial killer or a rape case, but about a disappearance. On an ordinary evening, young Julio Montoya Font (Clemente Rodríguez) mysteriously disappears after a night out. How did this happen? Joost knows. Julio is a boy who is liked by almost everyone. Why has he suddenly disappeared? After the police are called in, his mother, Vanessa Font (Paulina García), doesn't trust it. She decides to investigate herself and enlists the whole village for help. While the police can find little evidence, there is a priest around who secretly knows more than you would think.
So it's not Julio himself who plays the lead role, but his mother, the detective, and the priest who are central in this miniseries. The big question is the mystery itself: how can an ordinary boy, in the middle of a club with 300 people, just disappear? And then also without anyone seeing anything. That can't be, of course. This creates a kind of cat-and-mouse game where the police seem to be on the trail, but keep hitting dead ends. This miniseries has it all: mystery, secrets, and a thrilling story that will have you on the edge of your seat. It moves slowly enough to understand all the storylines. Before you know it, you feel like a detective trying to solve the case. Oh, and it's of course nice in Spanish, just for that reason alone I would watch it.
This case? It's true
Yes, you heard it right. Someone has to know iis based on a true story. For this, we go back in time to 1999. The 23-year-old Jorge Matute Johns goes out with his friends just like any young adult. They go to their regular club: La Cucaracha in Talcahuano. After a night of dancing to hits like Maldito Amor by Supernova and Freebola by Glup!, Jorge never comes home. No one would have seen him, but the police think this story is different. The club owners Bruno Betanzo and Carmen Sereno were the first to be questioned. Their statements did not match those of the security who worked that night and that, well, was a red flag.
Although the police had their suspicions, there was too little evidence. They had to release the club owners. After that, the investigation went downhill: there were only dead ends, making it a cold case after a while. The detectives gave up, but Jorge's family did not. They kept pushing for the investigation to continue. It was slow going until in 2003 an ex-priest came forward. During a confession, a man admitted that he had murdered Jorge. So there was a lead, but the priest did not want to reveal who this man was. He had a confidentiality obligation. The police could not prove this claim, so the case was soon thrown back into disarray. More than 15 years after the disappearance, there was suddenly a clue that reopened the case. How that happened, I won't reveal. Because yes: then you might already know how the series ends. But that it wasn't so positive, you can guess.
So are you looking for a series that you can binge this weekend? Then this is really something for you. It may not be the fastest, flashiest series, but it has a rock-solid story. Trust me.
