Thank God It's Friday
(Dilara Selfinaz)

Have you ever heard “love you, bye,” on your TikTok for-you page? Then it might be that you Dilara Selfinaz have seen her pass by. Whether you’re talking about her cute outfits, get-ready-with-me’s with great storytelling, or her hilarious videos – this 27-year-old content creator is totally hot. Last week she was in Paris for a brand trip and now she’s with us to tell everything about her weekend routine. By the way, it resembles Hannah Montana’s double life quite a bit, although she says so herself. How exactly does that work? I’m secretly very curious about that. You too? Here are the spoilers: this is what a typical Dilara weekend looks like.

Dear, dear Dilara. If you could give your life a number, what would it be at this moment?
“A 10. I just moved and this is my fourth day in our new house. We’ve waited so long for this moment, really: the coming months can’t go wrong. That makes it really a 10 at this moment. My son, Luay, didn’t have his own room before, but now he does. We have more space in the house – everything is better. I’m very happy.”
Imagine this: you’ve had a busy week and the weekend rolls along. Friday afternoon 5:00 PM is here. Where are you and what are you doing?
“Then I’m usually at home. My son goes to daycare, so around this time I pick him up. Then I go prepare food for him. After that, we eat, play, and a few hours later it’s bedtime. Actually, I have a bit of a ‘Hannah Montana’ life: without my son, my life looks very different. Then I’m probably out somewhere getting a matcha with my friends or at the Pathé with my husband. We have a Pathé subscription and for our son, we really went to the movies twice a week. I love movies and series, so that’s where you’d find me. Or if it’s not raining, I love to take a night stroll on Friday evening. Just walking through the city.”
Are there certain movies or series that you set everything aside for and fill your weekend with?
“If I love something, it’s binge-watching series, so yes: I definitely make time for that. I’m currently a huge fan of Tell Me Lies. Seriously: go – watch – it. There are quite a few intense 18+ scenes in it, so this isn’t a series I just put on when my son is around. I watch this with no one around me, it’s a series I really save for my me-time on the weekend. At first, I hesitated whether I wanted to start, but one Sunday afternoon I grabbed popcorn and a tea and started watching it. Then I watched five episodes in one go. I was hooked.”

If you’re not binge-watching series, what do you do on the weekend? When do you switch from Miley to Hannah?
“Well, first of all: I’m really not into Saturday grocery shopping. That’s really my biggest nightmare. All that hustle and bustle, I prefer to do that during the week. Saturday is a day when I always try to do something fun. We go to a nice place where my son can play. Or yes, honestly: we are Gen Z parents, so we’re also good at doing our own thing and taking Luay along. For example, we might go for a drink at a super-hyped hotspot on TikTok, but then it turns out to be not stroller-friendly at all, haha. On Sundays, I usually don’t have my son around, he goes with my husband who plays football in South Holland where my in-laws babysit. On this day, I can deep clean the whole house alone without any hassle and I have time to do something spontaneous. I’ve never been good at ‘shall we meet next week?’ I just check as we speak where everyone is. Then I don’t immediately make plans, but see what everyone has scheduled and where I want to go. Sometimes I eat at my aunt’s and another time I go to play with my cousin and her child. What I really love to do is shopping. I don’t want to say I have an addiction, but I find it so much fun to do. Going to real stores, touching things, and feeling the whole vibe. Just wandering around the streets, in and out of shops. That’s enjoyment.”
Since you love shopping so much, I wonder: are there certain outfits you live in on the weekend?
“Actually, I live in sweatpants at home. Outside, my style is quite tomboy-chic. I really love to wear oversized pants with heels underneath to give that feminine touch. Then I combine this with an oversized top, but I do wear a full face of makeup and my hair is all done in a blow-out. So yes: those clothes often come from the men’s section, but I’m still very feminine in my face and hair. When I have an event, I like to wear really beautiful dresses and short skirts. So ‘girl-girl’, adjusting everything, that can also make me very enthusiastic.”
Of course, you lived in Zoetermeer for a while and have now moved to Amsterdam. Do your weekends look very different here? Did you have nice regular spots there too?
“Zoetermeer is an incredibly child-friendly city, but there’s not much to do. You can easily find a house here for a reasonable price, there are good schools, but those it-places were missing. I’m used to that hustle and bustle because I grew up near Amsterdam. What I really liked about Zoetermeer is the nature. Together with my friend Indy, who lives there, I often went walking at the Noord-A beach. Just getting some fresh air among the locals. Now that I’ve moved, I can’t wait to step outside here and see ‘where the wind takes me’. There’s always something fun, but I still need to find those hotspots. And not those places where there are hundreds of lines, I want to find those hidden gems.”
What got you through the weekends during the big renovation of your house?
“The renovation really took a long time. Maybe this is another very cliché mother answer, but seeing that my son was happy made everything okay. No matter how long it took or if something went wrong. Sometimes you worry so much about nothing. I worried that I had to live temporarily with my mother among the moving boxes. At such a moment, that can be very annoying, but it was for a very nice view: moving. In the evenings, I often put things into perspective about what I was worried about and then you see that it’s usually nonsense. We are healthy, we can eat, and we have a roof over our heads. That is more than enough.”
Now you were in Paris last week for a PR event, super cool. Do you prefer a weekend full of events or a mom weekend with Luay and your husband?
“I prefer Luay and my husband. Most events are during the week, so for me, the weekend is really a weekend. Even if it weren’t, I’d still prefer that. Then I want to be a bit laid-back and post less on social media. Just doing our own thing, that’s what I enjoy the most. My followers also know that I’m almost not online then and that’s totally okay. Retreating a bit is very good for you. They are the most important to me.”
