These Dutch models dominate Paris Fashion Week

By

These Dutch models dominate Paris Fashion Week, and honestly: we are no longer surprised. International scouts still wonder what is in our water, as the Netherlands remains an almost inexhaustible source of top models for the biggest fashion houses in the world.

An agency that is notably often behind this is Micha Models. The Amsterdam agency has had a reputation for years as a breeding ground for international talent. Their models walk exclusively for the biggest brands and appear on covers of Vogue, campaigns for Prada, and catwalks for Chanel before you even learn to pronounce their name correctly.

During the past Paris Fashion Week it happened again. Three young models from the Micha Models stable made an immediate impression at the highest level: Isa Nilwik, Ouafe Rhuni and Janou Bennink. And they did not do this through a small stepping stone label, but immediately at the absolute top of the fashion world.

Isa Nilwik: a world debut at Balenciaga

For many models, a first show during fashion week is already a dream. For Isa Nilwik it started immediately with a world debut at Balenciaga. And that is about the same as playing your first football match… at Real Madrid.

Balenciaga is known for its sharp casting. Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli carefully selects his models, often with a distinctive look that perfectly fits the futuristic, slightly rebellious aesthetic of the house. That Nilwik walked her first international show there says a lot about her potential.

Nilwik has what the fashion world loves: a striking yet timeless appearance. The kind of face that can be both edgy and elegant, depending on the styling. There is a good chance we will see her soon in campaigns or editorials.

Ouafe Rhuni: immediately in the big league

Also Ouafe Rhuni made her debut during Paris Fashion Week and she also did that immediately at Saint Laurent. Not exactly the easy route, but one that immediately shows that you are taken seriously.

The industry is increasingly looking for models with a strong personality and character, and you can see that in her right away.

For young models, such a first big show can be a springboard to an international career. Think of editorials in international Vogue editions, campaigns for big brands, and she can keep her schedule free in September and October, when the next fashion weeks are scheduled.

Janou Bennink: from scouting to Celine in one year

The story of Janou Bennink shows how quickly things can sometimes go in the modeling world. Less than a year ago she was scouted, then she practiced her walks at the Micha Models office and now, twelve months later, she has already walked the show of Cologne Française Eau De Parfum.

Celine, led by Michael Rider, is known for its distinctive casting and sleek aesthetics. Celine likes models who exude a certain coolness, rock-’n-roll meets classy and cool, and Janou has all of that.

Micha Models: the silent force behind the success

The success of these models is no coincidence. Micha Models has existed since the nineties and has developed into one of the most influential modeling agencies in the Netherlands.

Its approach is striking: it focuses on long careers instead of quick successes. Models are carefully guided, and often they are first quietly built up before they break through internationally.

And it works. The list of successful models who started at Micha is impressive.

Maartje Verhoef: the Dutch Vogue favorite

One of the best-known names from the Micha Models stable is Maartje Verhoef. She broke through internationally in 2013 and quickly became a regular name on the biggest catwalks.

Verhoef walked shows for, among others: Chanel, Prada, Valentino, Dior.

She appeared on countless Vogue covers and worked with Steven Meisel and Mario Testino. Her classic, almost aristocratic appearance made her a favorite among high-fashion brands.

What makes Verhoef special is her versatility. She can convincingly wear both minimalist high fashion and commercial campaigns, a combination that many brands drool over.

Felice Nova: from model to superstar

And then there is Felice Nova, who has almost reached superstar status in the fashion world.

Nova started as a model but quickly developed into much more than that. She became a kind of muse of the fashion industry: someone with a strong personal style, a distinctive appearance, and a clear presence in the scene.

She worked with top photographers, walked for major fashion houses, and was regularly cast for editorials that went beyond just fashion. Her look, a combination of classic beauty and a slight androgynous edge, fits perfectly with the current times.

Nova also moves effortlessly between fashion, art, and culture. This makes her interesting for many brands: she is not just a model, but also a personality.

The Netherlands as a modeling country

The Netherlands has been known for decades as one of the largest exporters of top models. Names like Doutzen Kroes, Lara Stone and Rianne van Rompaey have paved that path before.

Why so many successful models come from the Netherlands remains a question that international scouts still ask. Perhaps it is the combination of height, natural appearance, and a down-to-earth mentality.

Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to stop for now.

With Isa Nilwik, Ouafe Rhuni and Janou Bennink Micha Models shows once again that the Netherlands is far from out of models.
