The 5 most travel-worthy fashion exhibitions of this year

By

2026 promises to be an extraordinarily good year for the traveling fashion lover. From royal attire in London to extravagant fashion art in Paris: these are the exhibitions you should already mark in your calendar.

Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style

I still dream about the dresses that were shown during Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story the event, and if you love fashion even a little: so do you. The craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into all those dresses is so impressive. And it’s even more impressive when you can see every hem and bead up close. The series doesn’t always stick closely to the truth in terms of history, and if that bothers you, this exhibition at Buckingham Palace is worth the trip for you. Or if you simply love a beautiful garment with a rich history. During this exhibition in London, you have the chance to see the most extensive collection of the queen's clothing ever. Think of outfits she wore as a baby to her wedding dress.

Azzedine Alaïa’s Dior Collection, La Galerie Dior & Azzedine Alaïa and Christian Dior, Two Masters of Haute Couture

Dior and Alaïa exhibitions? In one day? With just an hour's walk between the two? Sign. Me. Up. In Paris, Dior and the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation together honor Azzedine Alaïa's lifelong admiration for the fashion house Christian Dior. The Gallery showcases a hundred looks from Alaïa’s private collection, while the Foundation displays designs from both houses side by side. This is to make the cross-pollination as visible as possible. The museums are an hour's walk apart, and with lunch somewhere in between, this makes for the perfect Parisian outing. And yes (we are Dutch after all), you get a discount if you visit both exhibitions.

  • Address: Azzedine Alaïa Foundation, 18 Rue de la Verrerie, 75004 Paris
  • Website: galeriedior
  • Cost: €16
  • Dates: Now until March 3, 2026

Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art

In the exhibition Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art the work of Elsa Schiaparelli is central, of course. Her unforgettable collaborations with artists like Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau show how thin the line between dress and art is. From sculptural silhouettes to golden details: everything is displayed in London. It’s really one of those exhibitions where you can wander through the halls for hours.

  • Address: The Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Rd, London SW7 2RL
  • Website: vam.ac.uk
  • Cost: £28 (€32.20)
  • Dates: March 20, 2026 to November 1, 2026

Vivienne Westwood: Rebel – Storyteller – Visionary

What makes the Vivienne Westwood exhibition special is that it is made possible by collectors. It is an unofficial exhibition that was primarily made possible by Peter Smithson, in collaboration with The Bowes Museum. We should be grateful to follow Westwood from punk to haute couture. The pieces are displayed among objects from the museum collection, creating an impressive mix. And we haven’t even talked about the museum itself: a 19th-century building in the style of a French château in the middle of English County Durham. Isn’t that everything one could want?

  • Address: The Bowes Museum, Newgate, Barnard Castle DL12 8NP
  • Website: thebowesmuseum
  • Cost: £19.50 (€22.40)
  • Dates: March 28, 2026 to September 6, 2026

The Antwerp Six

Not in the mood to dust off your passport for an exhibition? Good news: you don’t have to. Just across the border, at the MoMu Fashion Museum Antwerp, you’ll find a large overview exhibition of six Belgian designers: Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Marina Yee, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Dirk Van Saene. In other words: The Antwerp Six. In the 1980s, they had a mission: to shake up the fashion world with their experimental designs. It all started when they rented a booth together at the British Designer Show in London, and that’s why we are now looking to see if we have a gap for January 2027.

  • Address: Nationalestraat 28, 2000 Antwerp, Belgium
  • Website: momu.be
  • Cost: €8
  • Dates: March 28, 2026 – January 17, 2027

Whether you’re planning a weekend in London or just crossing the border for a day: there are plenty of exhibitions to keep you entertained. These five show just how many facets the history of fashion has. All you need to do is pick a date. And isn’t a good exhibition the perfect excuse for a little getaway?
