When you hear the name Styles, you think of Harry. That one gray knitted sweater that went around the world, the tears of teenage girls in stadiums, a man wearing a pink suit and getting away with it. But there is another Styles worth knowing. She has over 10 million followers on Instagram, her own podcast, a book to her name, and a little daughter who has made Harry Styles an uncle. This is Gemma Styles, and she is so lovely that you find Harry even more charming because of her.
Gemma is smart
Gemma Styles, born on December 3, 1990, in Evesham, grew up in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, the same small town where Harry grew up before The X Factor changed his life forever. They attended the same high school, but then Gemma forged her own path. She studied Genetics at Sheffield Hallam University and graduated with a First Class Honours, the highest achievable grade in the British system, while also obtaining her teaching qualification. Harry was there on her graduation day and proudly shared photos on his Instagram. That says enough about how those two relate to each other.
She built her own career alongside his
While Harry conquered the world with One Direction and later as a solo artist, Gemma chose a life behind the scenes. She worked as a freelance journalist for, among others, The Debrief and MTV UK, writing about feminism, mental health, and social media, and gradually built a platform that was her own. In 2021, she launched her podcast Good Influence, where she speaks with people making a difference in sustainability, mental health, and social justice.
In 2024, her debut book Why Am I Like This? My Brain Isn’t Broken (and Neither Is Yours) was published, a title that immediately makes it clear that Gemma knows exactly who she is and what she has to say. In addition to her writing and podcast work, she works as a Senior Policy Advisor at HM Treasury, the British treasury. Genetics, journalism, economic policy, she collects careers as if they were hobbies.

She is his best friend
Harry talks about it himself, regularly. In an interview with BBC Radio 2 earlier this year, he called Gemma one of his best friends and praised how she keeps him grounded. And that’s no small feat considering the kind of life he leads. Gemma once wrote about the day Harry was chosen for One Direction: she was standing near the theater, ready to pick him up if things went wrong, to take him home, back to school and his ordinary life. That call never came. He kept winning, she wrote, and all our memories became his origin story.
They also have each other's names tattooed on their skin. Harry has a G on his arm, her name in Hebrew on his shoulder, and an iced gem tattoo for her. Gemma has the letter H in Morse code. If that’s not sibling goals, then we don’t know what is.

She is now a mom
In February 2024, Gemma announced on Instagram that she and her husband Michal Mlynowski had welcomed a daughter. She did it her own way: a black-and-white photo, a beautiful caption, and the addition that she knew this news could be painful for some, a gentle gesture towards those struggling with fertility or loss. Because that’s Gemma Styles at her core: caring, aware, and always mindful of those who don’t fit the picture.
And Harry is now an uncle, and Zoë Kravitz thereby sort of an aunt, isn’t that all cozy?
