Why sculpting your face is bizarrely good

By

It hasn't been long since we were all scraping our skin tighter and more radiant with a gua sha. With those flat stones, we were moving along our skin like crazy to improve circulation and the removal of waste. It seemed like the solution for a puffy face, but let's be honest: do you still use it? Is that thing not stuffed away somewhere in a drawer? I thought so. Do you keep forgetting to grab that thing, but still want a jawline so sharp you could lay a level against it? Then we know some tricks that you don't need any tools for. Write this down: this is how you can sculpt your face for free at home.

Why sculpting your face is good

A gua sha is more than just a stone in a nice shape. It is an ancient, traditional technique from China. ‘Gua’ means scraping and ‘sha’ stands for particles that pollute your body. So you are literally scraping all the bad waste out of your body. Traditionally, the Chinese do this for their health and to slow down the aging process of the skin. At night, all sorts of moisture accumulate in your face. You know those mornings when you wake up and it looks like you've cried all night over sad dog videos? It's exactly that puffy look you're trying to avoid by sculpting your face.

By the way, you shouldn't take that scraping too literally. You're not scraping your skin off with a hard stone. By gently massaging your skin and the muscles underneath, circulation can temporarily increase. This allows all the accumulated moisture to move more easily, so you can essentially push it away. By doing this regularly, you will have less puffy eyes and your cheekbones and jawline will get a bit more definition. Hello, free contouring. Oh, and of course not unimportant: sculpting relaxes your face. By giving yourself such a good massage, the muscles in your face finally get a chance to relax. Because all that tension they have to process is no joke. Just think about clenching your teeth tightly or spending an hour with furrowed brows answering your emails. That tension really holds your face in its grip.

How to sculpt your face for free at home with your fingers

Now, of course, you can buy a gua sha or one of those new Medicube gua shas with built-in skincare to sculpt your face. This definitely works well, but it doesn't have to cost that much money. All you need is something soft for your face, like facial oil or a serum, and your fingers. Thanks to the oil or serum, your fingers can glide smoothly over your skin without having to push too hard and causing unnecessary damage. Your fingers can grow a jawline just as well as those stones. How do you do that? With these handy tips:

1. Open your lymph nodes by massaging

Before you enthusiastically start pulling at your jawline, we start at your neck. Apply skin oil or a serum here. Apply a little serum or oil between each step to ensure your skin stays supple. To ensure that you can actually remove all the accumulated waste, the goal is to open your lymph nodes. You do this by massaging your neck and throat in the right spots. Place your fingers just above your collarbones and apply very light pressure a few times while moving from top to bottom. Then, wipe your fingers from the middle of your neck outward. Also, gently pinch your skin so you can apply a bit more pressure.

2. Go to your ears

Then massage just behind your ears. This helps your face relax and gets your circulation going. Then, with your flat hands, stroke from your ears down the sides of your neck. This doesn't have to be rushed; you're massaging. You're not in a race. This doesn't have to be rushed: you're massaging, not winning a race. These movements open the route that all waste will take. Wipe slowly and don't be afraid to pinch your skin a little. That's how you do it right. Just as you can pinch, you can certainly also pull a little on your ears. As long as you perform all the movements slowly, you apply enough pressure to relax the muscles.

3. Only then do you go to your jaw

This is the place where a lot of tension accumulates. Just think about teeth grinding, eating, and all the moments when you're stressed: your teeth clench hard together. Massage with your fingers along the sides of your chin. First, gently push the skin to the sides before you start working ‘hard’. Then bend your index finger and gently push along the sides of your chin again. Open your mouth and move your finger slightly higher. Gently push and massage in circles. This is the secret to calming your jaw.

4. The area around your nose is next

Of course, your nose could also use some love. Start by massaging the wings of your nose with your fingertips. Gently go up and down along your nose and extend the movement to your cheeks. Repeat this a few times. Then it's time to fold your skin. That sounds weird, but it makes sense. By gently pulling your skin forward and massaging the muscles underneath, you get to the roots of all your tension.

5. Your eyes are also included

Yes, you heard that right. Your eyes are also part of this process. How else are you going to get rid of those puffy eyes? Place your outstretched fingers directly under your eyes, on your bags. Gently press and rub with your fingers from your nose to your temples. Do this a few times and then, to finish the movement, wipe downwards. This way, you remove the waste in between. Massage gently over your temples and then move to your forehead.

6. Finish with your forehead

This may not be the first place you think of when you hear gua sha, but it's definitely a good area to pay attention to. It's mainly the wrinkles on your forehead that stand out first. Gently press with your fingertips over your entire forehead. Do this a few times in a row. Move your fingers quickly from left to right to apply pressure. Then rub your fingers over your entire forehead and gently push your skin upwards.

7. The finishing touches

To conclude the exercises, place your hands behind your ears and move your thumbs gently in circles along your neck. Then wipe along your neck and throat one more time to ensure you've removed all substances.

Was this massage nice? Good. Because you're going to do this more often. To really see results, it's good to perform this massage a few times a week. It's not just a moment for yourself, but your skin will also be happy about it. Just take a look in the mirror after a month and see for yourself how much better you look.
