The new Harlan Coben series on Netflix makes absolutely no sense
The story becomes increasingly absurd and unbelievable

I fell for it again, but why? The previous Harlan Coben series, Run Away, is by far the worst acted series I have ever seen. Really, such a bad storyline and so poorly acted. But why am I going to watch this number 1 series I Will Find You on Netflix? Maybe that's it: it was number 1. And it's not like I stop watching halfway through, because I still want to know the ending. Okay, here it is, it's all my own fault. But really. Never again a Harlan Coben series on Netflix. Because a murder that might not be a murder? Someone who is innocent in prison. A missing child. A secret from the past. A character that suddenly appears out of nowhere halfway through. And a plot that completely derails in the last two episodes.
And yet.
Yes, there I was again this weekend. Eight episodes of I Will Find You further.

Every time I fall for it again
It all starts with such incredibly bad acting. This time with David Burroughs, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son. Until someone claims that his son might not be dead at all.
Okay. I’ll keep watching for a bit.
But then somewhere halfway through, the same thing always happens. The story becomes increasingly bizarre, absurd, increasingly unbelievable, and there are so many plot twists that you wonder if the writers have completely lost the plot themselves.
It makes no sense. Really no sense.
Coincidences pile up, characters make the most illogical choices ever, and suddenly everyone seems to be hiding something from each other.
And then that big reveal…
I won’t spoil anything, but I seriously had to laugh. Not because it was meant to be funny, but because it became so disproportionate that it almost seemed like a parody of itself.

The acting doesn’t save the series either
Normally you can save an unbelievable story with strong actors, but that also goes completely wrong here.
Dialogues feel like they come straight out of a bad soap opera and some characters remain so flat that you don’t invest a second in them. Meanwhile, everyone still looks like they just stepped out of makeup after an escape, chase, or shooting.
And yet the series is in the Netflix Top 10
Okay, what’s going wrong here? Because the series is back at number 1.
Of course, I went to see if I was the only one with this negative experience. But no, I read online comments that keep coming back. “Unbelievable.” “Absurd.” “Far-fetched.” “What have I actually been watching?”
And yet we all keep watching. You and I.
Okay, that might be the greatest quality of Harlan Coben. Not that his series are good. They are more, as I read so aptly online, the fast food version of thrillers. You already know in advance that it’s not good. But still, you want to know how it ends.
And yes… I’ll probably be on the couch again for the next adaptation. No. No, really not anymore.
