Brett Goldstein is a British actor, comedian, and screenwriter. He was born on July 17, 1980, in Sutton, London, and is now 46 years old. His big breakthrough with the international audience came with Ted Lasso, in which he plays Roy Kent: a grumpy, quite foul-mouthed footballer with a soft heart.

And Brett is not just the one in front of the camera. He also co-wrote Ted Lasso and won Emmy Awards for his work on the series. Additionally, he is a co-creator of the comedy series Shrinking, in which he also plays an important role behind the scenes. He has more to offer than just that iconic frown and raspy voice.

How did Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein meet?

The two got to know each other while making Office Romance, the romantic comedy from Netflix that premiered in June 2026. Jennifer plays Jackie Cruz, a successful CEO of an airline, while Brett portrays lawyer Daniel Blanchflower. When their worlds collide, sparks fly and a romance develops in the workplace.

The story behind the casting might be even more interesting than the film itself. Brett wrote the script together with his Ted Lasso colleague Joe Kelly, specifically with Jennifer Lopez in mind for the lead role. According to him, she was their absolute dream choice. And that while Jennifer herself was already a fan of Ted Lasso and especially loved Roy Kent, Brett's character.

In other words: he wrote a film for his dream actress, she was already a fan of his work, and eventually, they were kissing on camera together. If this were the plot of a romcom, I would say it was written quite coincidentally.

That is of course the question everyone wants the answer to. On October 16, Jennifer and Brett were spotted at a party in Los Angeles. According to Page Six, they arrived in the same car and left together as well. Upon arrival, they reportedly went inside separately.

A source told them that the two see each other in a ‘casual’ way. They both enjoy going to parties and restaurants. That sounds fun, but let's not immediately pull out the wedding dress: there is no official confirmation from Jennifer or Brett.

Moreover, they denied the dating rumors earlier this year during an interview with Today. Jennifer said that people often link her to someone she works with. Brett joked that this happens when you're around her. When presenter Savannah Guthrie directly asked if they were dating in real life, they both clearly answered no.
