Lady Gaga has become a mother. Yes, really. Mother Monster has given birth to a little monster in the world. However, there is a rather striking detail: we completely missed her pregnancy pregnancy.
The 40-year-old singer and her fiancé Michael Polansky have become parents to their first child. The baby was recently spotted for the first time during a walk in Northern California, with Gaga carrying the child in a pouch. The name, gender, and birth date remain private for now.
And that naturally raises the question that everyone is now wondering: when was Lady Gaga actually pregnant?

From here it gets interesting. On April 13, 2026, Gaga was still performing on stage at Madison Square Garden in New York. A mega show indeed, but in photos and videos from that evening, there was no obvious baby bump visible. And I find that strange, considering she was already four months pregnant at that time.
That doesn’t automatically mean she wasn’t pregnant then. A pregnancy can remain quite well hidden for months, especially under stage costumes and shapewear. But it does make the timing quite intriguing.
PEOPLE It is reported that Gaga and Polansky took time off in the summer to focus on their newborn child.
But did she carry the child herself?
And here we come to the part where the internet has unleashed all sorts of theories. The short answer: we don’t know.
Neither Gaga nor Michael Polansky has publicly stated whether Gaga was pregnant herself. There is also no reliable reporting confirming that there was a surrogate. The circumstances surrounding the birth are simply kept too private.
So no: we cannot conclude based on her appearance, concerts, and photos that she had a surrogate.

Lady Gaga has wanted to be a mother for a long time
What we do know for sure is that motherhood doesn’t seem to have been a spontaneous whim. In interviews, Gaga has been talking about her desire for children for years. In 2024, it was revealed that she had discussed having children with Polansky and that she was ready to be ‘humiliated’ by parenthood (in the sense that a child can turn your ego and perfect planning upside down).
And in 2025, she was even more outspoken about it. In an interview with The New York Times, she said she was excited to become a mother, but also thought about how she could combine her life as an artist with motherhood. She wanted to give her future children the freedom to discover who they are.
Later, she referred to motherhood as her “next starring role”. And just look at it now.
