The most beautiful spas in the Netherlands

By
Two women in bathrobes relax on a bench in a spa, while they drink tea together and laugh.
There is actually only one place that effortlessly lets relaxation seep into you: the spa. Of course; you float in a jacuzzi, warm up in the sauna, and let yourself be pampered during a treatment without any guilt. But it’s just as much about everything around it. The warm wood, soft curves, light tiles; an environment that ensures you are optimally relaxed. These are spas in the Netherlands that fully understand that game and where you are guaranteed to step out feeling zen.

Thermae 2000

Cauberg 25-27, Valkenburg

At the top of the Cauberg in South Limburg, half hidden in the hilly surroundings, are the glass pyramids of Thermae 2000. You literally swim under the angles of the building, in a steaming white bath without a single sharp line. Everything feels soft (even the pyramids): wooden finishes, organic shapes, and water that seems to flow endlessly. The saunas, infusion sessions, and massages are nice, but that truly calming feeling is found in the view. No wonder they won the Best Spa Awards 2022.

Thermen Maarssen

Westbroeksebinnenweg 2a, Tienhoven

Saunas are enjoyable, but at this spa, you mainly want to be outside. On a pier, in a white bathrobe, with your toes in a stone-carved foot bath. Right in front of you are the Maarsseveense Plassen. The resort is located in the middle of the country but feels completely detached from everything. The architecture follows that feeling: lots of glass, natural materials, everything focused on the landscape. Inside, you will find plenty of saunas, swimming pools, whirlpools, and treatments, but the most striking part remains that long pier.

Renessence

George Gershwinlaan 520, Amsterdam

Just ten minutes from our office, in Amsterdam South, lies a beautifully designed spa. Here, it’s all about texture and atmosphere: wood, velvet, and beige tones. It’s a modern place, but everything you see feels calm and almost pettable. They have a worldly round conversation nook with orange velvet cushions that you never want to leave. Also nice to know: music has a place here. They held a Sunday morning meditation led by harpist Giulia Siccardi. Just the thought brings peace, but there’s more: from (hot) yoga and massages to reflexology and more technical treatments like cryotherapy, where your body is briefly exposed to -110 degrees. Brr.

Thermen Berendonck

Oude Teersdijk 15, Wijchen

Thermen Berendonck proves that relaxation doesn’t have to be boring. The entire building breathes a thousand-and-one-nights atmosphere, with high passages, warm tones, and Eastern details that come back wherever you look. The highlight is the indoor pool that seamlessly flows into an outdoor pool, enclosed by high walls and complete with a swim-up bar. Petition to install this in every home in our country to boost overall well-being? Furthermore, there’s just everything: saunas, steam baths, whirlpools, foot baths, and a huge sunbathing area. From accessible 60 degrees to a full 100 for those who dare. But one of the coolest pools you can find here is the saltwater pool.

Akasha

Paulus Potterstraat 50, Amsterdam

In the Conservatorium Hotel (in the heart of Amsterdam) lies Akasha: named after the Hindu concept of ‘the source of all creations’. And they won the Netherlands Best Hotel Spa 2025. The tone is set. The space is minimalist and modern, with clean lines, natural tones, wood, and lots of glass. No chance that you will have your eyes overstimulated. The treatment menu follows that same line: holistic, but clear. You can have a facial done here, but also extensive hydrotherapy rituals.
