This is what hip New York wears during fashion week
The fashion month is in full swing. We are of course not only looking at what happens on the catwalk; what is visible on the street is at least as inspiring and trendsetting. New York is already giving a number of clear model lessons for the upcoming season: denim on denim, a longer bermuda, and a striking return of the cummerbund.
Denim on denim, cargo pants, and fringes: the returning items
Denim on denim is one of them. The cargo pants also remain prominently present, just like fringes. We see them not only in suede but also in flowing fabrics that give a softer and more elegant effect.
Crop tops: why they are extra short this autumn
Although it can still be quite warm in New York during Fashion Week, there were noticeably many crop tops to be seen. And not just a little cropped: the tops are really short.
Khaki and beige: the investment piece of the season
Another item that you can confidently consider an investment piece this autumn is the pants in a beautiful khaki or beige color. Colored pants are definitely in vogue, but a very pronounced color is not easy for everyone to wear. For example, I have sometimes made a bad purchase with a red or bright green pair of pants. You just have to like it. A nice khaki-beige pair of pants, on the other hand, is timeless and chic. With a denim shirt on top, you are immediately well-dressed.
The long bermuda: the new pant length
What we also saw a lot in New York: the long bermuda. A bit longer than the bermuda we saw this summer, with a length up to or just over the knee. In New York, it was often combined with a small kitten heel. Another option is a boot that ends just below the knee; that also gives a very nice silhouette.
Sets and bold structures: matching is back
Furthermore, we see a lot of denim, but also sets where a jacket and pants are worn in the same print or fabric. The look can be a bit bolder: think of sturdier structures and materials.
Accessories: this is how you give your wardrobe a makeover without new clothes
And then the accessories. It is precisely with them that you can give an existing wardrobe a whole new look. Especially in winter, when accessories play an important role anyway. Those who do not feel the need to immediately buy new clothes can also create a new look with accessories.
Think of long gloves, for example in the style of theater gloves or opera gloves, but also brooches, ribbons, ties, and scarves. A tie with a shirt, with a small vest over it, is for example a very simple way to give a classic outfit a fashionable twist.
The cummerbund: the most striking detail in women's fashion
And another striking detail: the cummerbund. You know, the wide waistband that men traditionally wear under a tuxedo. This season we also see it back in women's fashion, simply worn at the waist.
In short: the choice is huge. New York shows in any case that with a few targeted choices you can give your existing wardrobe a whole new, fashionable look.
